Today we’d like to introduce you to Shena Moreau.
Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
My journey started as a product of childhood trauma. Learning to self soothe myself and keep quiet to please the family dynamic. I was born and raised in Miami, Florida, which is full of activity and culture. My family is of Haitian and Jamaican background, leaving me a descendant of both countries.
Being raised by parents who have unresolved trauma from their childhood was not fun. In return they inflicted trauma on me. I grew up wanting to be this model and actress entrepreneur. It was clear to me that I wanted to be my own boss as a means to take control of my life and in a search of peace.
I knew I wanted to be an entrepreneur, but I did not know I wanted to be a therapist until I attended a psychology class in college. Because of a psychology course in Broward College, I changed my Major from Nursing to Social Work. I realized I wanted to help children heal because I did not have that adult for me.
After years of schooling, my focus in my career became about helping children. I was doing therapy part-time for children and adults while working a full time position. When I received my license as a License Clinical Social Worker, I opened my private practice Valorous Wellness.
As life went on, I changed. I went through a difficult time in my life where I had to undergo surgery and remove a pelvic mass which resulted in me removing my uterus at the age of 31, at the time. I felt I lost a part of me. I went deeper into healing because talk therapy alone was not working for me because, I was no longer feeling connected to my body. In my search for a deeper connection to self, I realized that my clients needed more as well.
I started my training as a holistic therapist. I learned about sound healing, mediation, energy healing, and yoga poses that are great for trauma and the therapy room. In healing myself I was learning to help my clients on a deeper level. I found myself again. With 10 years of providing therapy services, and as a founder of Valorous Wellness, I help women remind themselves of who they are by rewiring the brain and connecting them back to their bodies.
To all the women out there, You already know who you are, I am just here to guide you back to her.
I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
Challenges I have faced while learning to heal from childhood trauma, adulthood trauma and managing clients is learning to actually pour into myself. I would constantly pour into everyone else instead of myself because I felt guilty. I was burning myself out because my culture was taught hard work shows worth rather than stillness. I learned to be the best version of me by spending time with me. I engaged in independent activities and reminded myself that sometimes it’s okay to do nothing. It’s okay to just be.
As you know, we’re big fans of Valorous Wellness . For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about the brand?
Valorous Wellness is a holistic therapy practice dedicated to healing the mind, body, and soul. We provide an integrative approach that blends traditional talk therapy with mindful and spiritual practices such as breathwork, meditation, sound healing, and somatic wellness. Rooted in trauma-informed care, our space is designed to support women seeking relief from anxiety, emotional overwhelm, and life transitions in a compassionate and culturally mindful way.
At Valorous Wellness, healing is not one dimensional, we honor the whole person. Through heart-centered guidance and evidence-based practices, we help women regulate their nervous system, reconnect with their inner peace, and step into their strength with clarity and intention.
What matters most to you? Why?
What matters most to me is my time. I balance work, time for me, and family and I pay attention to what signals my body is telling me when it’s time to rest.
