Today we’d like to introduce you to Mara Bernstein.
Hi Mara, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
The tagline of my practice is Divorce Different. After three decades as a divorce lawyer in both NYC and South Florida, my mission has been to change the way couples divorce.. After years of witnessing the emotional and financial toll divorce litigation took on so many of my clients and their families, I now provide my clients with private, out of court ways to divorce and enter into Prenuptial and Postnuptial Agreements that are faster, less expensive and less toxic to families.
I began my career in 1988 as a divorce litigation attorney with a preeminent New York City divorce law firm, representing clients in high-asset divorce and child custody matters after attaining my undergraduate degree from Cornell University and my law degree from Brooklyn Law School.
I am a member of both the New York State and Florida Bars, Collaborative Law trainer, an Accredited and experienced Collaborative Divorce attorney, Florida Supreme Court-certified Divorce Mediator and trained Guardian Ad Litem.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Of course there have been struggles- personally and professionally. Professionally, my role is to advocate for and be the guide to lead my clients into their next best chapter. It is a big responsibility that I take very seriously. Its can be a tough job but I do believe that it suits me and I am good at it!
Personally, I have experienced a lot of loss which makes me the person I am today– empathetic, resilient and brave.
As you know, we’re big fans of Law Offices of Mara Bernstein, P.A,. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about the brand?
Please see first questions- additionally, I have been doing exciting work around Prenuptial Agreements which have been terribly mishandled by our legal system. For years, instead of being a tool for couples to communicate and get aligned, these Agreements and the negotiations surrounding then are too often adversarial, contentious and counterproductive.
The way I now work with my clients to talk about negotiate Prenuptial Agreements is so much more productive, meaningful and practical.
What are your plans for the future?
Continuing to do the work I do while expanding to some more creative projects in the areas of Prenuptial and Postnuptial Agreements.
Big plans this summer to explore and relax– some great trips planned so far–New Mexico, Upstate NY, Hamptons and Berkshires. I love the North East (where I am from) during the summer- catching up wth friends and family
