Hidden Gems: Meet Hannah Tishman of Hannah Tishman Psychotherapy, LCSW P.C.

Today we’d like to introduce you to Hannah Tishman.

Hi Hannah, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
I grew up in Sarasota, Florida, and from a young age, I was always drawn to people, stories, and understanding what makes others tick. For a long time, I thought that passion would lead me into journalism. I loved writing, communication, and learning about people’s experiences, but as I got older, I realized something was missing. I didn’t just want to tell stories — I wanted to help people change theirs.

That realization ultimately led me toward psychology and mental health. I attended Florida State University for college, where my interest in human behavior, relationships, and emotional healing deepened. After graduating, I made the move to New York City to pursue my Master of Social Work at Columbia University — a move that shaped both my personal and professional life in profound ways.

I began my career working in community mental health in Harlem, where I gained firsthand experience supporting individuals navigating trauma, systemic stress, anxiety, grief, and complex life circumstances. That work taught me how important it is to meet people with both compassion and practical support, and it strengthened my commitment to creating meaningful, lasting change in therapy.

From there, I transitioned into group private practice work, where I continued developing my clinical style and deepened my focus on attachment, trauma, EMDR, somatic work, and relational healing. Over time, I realized I wanted to build something of my own — a practice that felt modern, warm, collaborative, and deeply human.

That vision eventually became Hannah Tishman Psychotherapy, LCSW P.C., a group practice serving clients across Connecticut, Florida, New York, and New Jersey. What started as a solo vision has grown into a small team of clinicians who share the same passion for helping people heal in a deeper, more sustainable way.

After spending nearly a decade in New York City, I moved to Miami last summer — a transition that felt both grounding and full-circle, returning to Florida while continuing to grow both personally and professionally. Today, I continue to lead my practice while working closely with clients, helping people move from survival mode into a more connected, authentic version of themselves. The heart of my work has always remained the same: creating a space where people feel understood, supported, and empowered to truly heal.

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
My own personal struggles have deeply shaped the therapist I’ve become. Along the way, I experienced periods of anxiety, burnout, nervous system dysregulation, and health challenges that taught me firsthand how connected the mind and body truly are. Like many high-achieving people, I became very good at pushing through stress while feeling overwhelmed underneath.

Those experiences ultimately led me toward more holistic, trauma-informed approaches to healing. They also gave me a much deeper understanding of what it feels like to live in survival mode while still trying to “hold it all together.”

Today, those experiences inform the way I practice. I approach therapy with warmth, compassion, and a strong belief that healing isn’t just about insight — it’s about helping people feel safe enough to reconnect with themselves, regulate their nervous systems, and create lasting change from the inside out.

Great, so let’s talk business. Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
Hannah Tishman Psychotherapy, LCSW P.C. is a modern group practice serving clients across Connecticut, Florida, New York, and New Jersey (currently all virtually). We specialize in trauma, anxiety, attachment wounds, grief, life transitions, relationship challenges, and disordered eating, with a strong focus on helping high-functioning individuals who feel stuck in patterns of overwhelm, burnout, or survival mode.

What sets our practice apart is our integrative, deeply relational approach. We combine evidence-based modalities like EMDR, CBT, and mindfulness with somatic work, attachment-focused therapy, and parts work/IFS to help clients create deeper, lasting change — not just symptom management. Our work is rooted in the belief that healing happens when people feel safe, understood, and connected to themselves.

As a practice, we’re known for creating a space that feels warm, modern, collaborative, and human. Therapy can often feel clinical or intimidating, and we aim to make the experience approachable while still doing meaningful, transformative work. We also place a strong emphasis on the mind-body connection and nervous system healing, which informs much of our work with trauma and anxiety.

Brand-wise, I’m most proud of building a practice that feels authentic to who I am and the kind of care I believe people deserve. What began as a solo practice has grown into a small team of compassionate clinicians who genuinely care about helping people heal in a deeper, more sustainable way. More than anything, I want readers to know that therapy doesn’t have to be about simply “getting through” life — it can be a space to better understand yourself, heal old patterns, and feel more grounded, connected, and fulfilled.

Our practice is intentionally private pay so we can provide more personalized, in-depth care without the limitations often imposed by insurance companies. This allows us to tailor treatment to each client’s unique needs, maintain smaller caseloads, and focus on deeper, lasting healing. We believe therapy should feel individualized, collaborative, and human — not rushed or dictated by insurance requirements. We provide individual, couples and family therapy.

In terms of your work and the industry, what are some of the changes you are expecting to see over the next five to ten years?
I think the mental health industry is going to continue moving toward more holistic, trauma-informed, and accessible care over the next 5–10 years. We’re already seeing a major shift away from purely symptom-focused therapy and toward approaches that address the nervous system, attachment, and mind-body connection.

I also believe virtual therapy is here to stay. The pandemic changed the way people access care, and many clients now prioritize flexibility, convenience, and finding the right therapist over geographic location. Hybrid and fully virtual practices will likely continue growing, especially as tele-health becomes more integrated into everyday healthcare.

Another major shift is the increasing role of technology and AI within mental health — particularly around accessibility, practice management, and psycho-education. While I don’t think technology can replace the human relationship at the core of therapy, I do think it will continue making care more accessible and helping clinicians spend more time focused on actual client care.

At the same time, I think clients are becoming more intentional about the type of therapy they want. People are looking for therapists who feel authentic, specialized, relational, and aligned with their values rather than simply seeking generic talk therapy. There’s also growing awareness around burnout, trauma, nervous system regulation, and the impact of chronic stress, which I think will continue shaping the future of the field.
