Conversations with Julian Cavazos

Today we’d like to introduce you to Julian Cavazos.

Hi Julian, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstory.
Long story short, I’ve had a burning passion for raves and techno music, after going to my favorite event I made a goal for myself to create that experience here in my home town. I met Bryan who is one of the DJs in the group off from a Reddit forum and he was looking to do the same thing. I started searching for location after location trying to get access to play one night, I ended up getting in contact with a brewery and set up my first show. Ended up meeting the MenaceBros who are two brother who have been in the scene here for sometime but mostly stuck around house and minimal tech house. After meeting them, it was great cause they already had equipment and experience already. We did our first show at the brewery and then from there everything kinda started taking off for us. We have the whole year booked basically, and it’s all just from everyone in the group working as a team rather than an individual. Truly grateful being able to bring a team like this together all having the same goals and passions.

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
It has its ups and downs honestly, there is never really a smooth road when it comes to this because each area is different including the people that live there. Not only that one of the struggles is the techno scene is this area is pretty much non existent, so imagine trying to bring techno in an area that has non of it. Spending 100’s out of our pockets to promote our shows, spending more money on sound equipment to rent for the night, spending more money for more intimate light shows too. These are always the standards to expect honestly though, some of the real struggles is the time rules in SWFL, any club or event space closes at 2am which is a big deal breaker for these events we host, they’re meant to be going on for the entire night, but due to laws and regulations we are always trying to find new ways and methods to keep the community together and make our events still unique and special.

Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
I mean honestly my work isn’t really special in any way, I recently worked at State Farm then quit and started working at Verizon. I’m just a typical 9-5 average joe. I will say I’m very proud of maintaining a happy lifestyle balance between my family, my partner, my job and the music side of things.

Is there a quality that you most attribute to your success?
Being humble and understanding of others is pretty important. Being open and having the want to play a risk is also important, you’ll never learn if you don’t fail.
