Guimar, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
I began my journey in design with a passion for creativity, fashion, and the way spaces can influence how people feel and live. I studied Interior Design at the Miami Art Institute and also earned an Associate degree in Fashion Merchandising, which helped shape my eye for texture, color, proportion, and detail.
Before launching my own firm, I had the opportunity to gain valuable hands-on experience working with Allen Saunders for two years, followed by two years with The Parker Company. Those early years were incredibly important in teaching me the business side of design, project execution, client service, and the level of detail required to create exceptional spaces.
After gaining experience in the industry, I founded Guimar Urbina Interiors in 2009 with the vision of creating a boutique, highly personalized design firm focused on luxury residential and commercial spaces. Over the years, the company evolved into a full-service design studio known for managing everything from concept creation and renovations to custom furnishings, construction coordination, and turnkey installations.
What truly helped me grow was combining creativity with strong project management. I learned early that beautiful design is only one part of the equation—clients also value organization, trust, communication, and results. By consistently delivering spaces that are elegant, functional, and thoughtfully curated, we built a strong reputation through referrals and repeat clients.
Today, I’m proud to have designed homes and projects throughout Miami, Coral Gables, Fort Lauderdale, Key Biscayne, New York, and beyond, including work for high-profile clients and families who value privacy and excellence. My work has also been featured in media outlets and industry events, which has helped expand the brand.
Where I am today is the result of passion, perseverance, long hours, and always striving to exceed expectations. I still approach every project with the same excitement I had when I first started—because transforming spaces and improving the way people live never stops inspiring me.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
It has definitely not been a completely smooth road. Like many entrepreneurs, my journey has come with challenges, lessons, and moments that required resilience. Building a design business from the ground up takes time, trust, and consistency. In the beginning, one of the biggest struggles was establishing credibility and growing a client base in a highly competitive market. I had to work hard to prove myself, earn referrals, and show that I could deliver both creativity and professionalism.
Another challenge has been managing the many moving parts of large design projects—contractors, timelines, budgets, shipping delays, custom orders, and unexpected construction issues. Interior design is not only about creating beautiful spaces; it also requires problem-solving every day. There were times when projects became stressful due to delays beyond our control, vendor issues, or changing client expectations.
As a business owner, I also faced the challenge of balancing creativity with leadership—building a team, managing operations, and continuously evolving the company while still staying hands-on with clients and design direction.
However, every struggle taught me something valuable. Those experiences made me stronger, more organized, and more prepared to handle complex luxury projects with confidence. I believe the challenges are what shaped both me and Guimar Urbina Interiors into what we are today. Success is rarely a straight line, but persistence, passion, and always delivering excellence have helped me continue growing.

I’m especially proud to be a woman who built this business through vision, discipline, and perseverance. In an industry where leadership, construction management, and large-scale decision-making have often been male-dominated spaces, I have worked hard to prove that women can lead with both strength and creativity. I’m proud that I’ve created opportunities not only for myself, but also for other talented women who are part of my team and the many female professionals, artisans, and entrepreneurs we collaborate with.
What sets me apart is that I combine strong feminine intuition and design sensibility with serious business execution. I understand beauty, but I also understand budgets, timelines, negotiations, logistics, and how to bring a project to completion. My clients trust me because I am hands-on, detail-oriented, and committed to results.
I’m also known for creating spaces that feel luxurious yet deeply livable—homes that are elegant, warm, and personal rather than simply trendy. Every project is approached with passion, precision, and care.
What I am most proud of is building a respected brand from the ground up, earning the trust of incredible clients, and showing that when women lead with confidence, intelligence, and heart, we can create something truly extraordinary.
