Community Highlights: Meet Angelica Merlano of Opal Oasis

Today we’d like to introduce you to Angelica Merlano.

Angelica, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
Opal Oasis Integrative Wellness really started from my own experiences working within the healthcare system. As a Physician Associate (PA-C) practicing across multiple specialties, including primary care, psychiatry, neurology, aesthetics, and trauma surgery. I saw firsthand how often patients felt rushed, overlooked, or like just another number. It was frustrating, because I knew care could and should feel more personal than that.

Over time, I realized I wanted to create a space that felt completely different from the traditional clinical experience.

That’s how Opal Oasis came to life. I envisioned a calm, elevated environment where patients could slow down, feel heard, and actually build a relationship with their provider. I’ve always believed in a more integrative approach, focusing on the root cause of concerns rather than just treating symptoms, and also recognizing that confidence and wellness go hand in hand.

Building Opal Oasis has been incredibly rewarding. It’s grown into a space where patients know they’ll receive thoughtful, unrushed care, whether they’re coming in for medical support, mental health, or aesthetic treatments. At the end of the day, my goal has always been simple: to create a place where people feel genuinely cared for, inside and out.

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
It definitely hasn’t been a smooth road and I think that’s the part people don’t always see.

As a medical provider, I am very confident in my clinical skills and my ability to care for patients, but building a business is a completely different world. I knew medicine but I didn’t know what it meant to be a business owner. Starting Opal Oasis from the ground up meant stepping into areas I had no experience in, like marketing, branding, operations, and even learning how to simply get my name out there.

There were moments of uncertainty and a lot of trial and error. I had to teach myself how to build a brand, connect with the community, and grow something from zero without a roadmap. That can feel overwhelming at times, especially when you’re used to being confident in your field.

But those challenges have also been the most rewarding part of the journey. They’ve pushed me to grow not just as a provider, but as an entrepreneur. I’ve learned to trust the process, stay consistent, and remain grounded in my “why” which has always been creating a better, more intentional experience for my patients.

Looking back, it hasn’t been easy, but it’s absolutely been worth it.

Appreciate you sharing that. What should we know about Opal Oasis?
Opal Oasis is an integrative wellness patient-centered practice designed to offer a more elevated and intentional approach to care. We specialize in integrative primary care, mental health support, and aesthetic medicine, bringing together internal wellness and external confidence in a way that feels seamless and personalized.

What truly sets us apart is the experience. At Opal Oasis, patients are never rushed. We prioritize quality time, meaningful conversations, and individualized treatment plans. Every service is approached through a whole-person lens, blending evidence-based medicine with a more thoughtful, lifestyle-focused approach.

We’re also known for creating a calm, luxury-inspired environment that doesn’t feel like a traditional medical office. From the moment someone walks in, the goal is for them to feel at ease, cared for, and genuinely seen. Whether it’s a mental health visit, an integrative wellness consultation, or aesthetic treatments like neuromodulators, microneedling, or dermal fillers, the experience is designed to feel both elevated and approachable.

Brand-wise, what I’m most proud of is how intentional everything has been, from the patient experience to the aesthetic of the space to the way we connect with our community. Opal Oasis isn’t just about services; it’s about creating a feeling. It’s a place where patients can slow down, feel supported, and invest in themselves without pressure or judgment.

Ultimately, I want readers to know that Opal Oasis is redefining what healthcare can feel like, more personal, more thoughtful, and more empowering. It’s not just about looking better or feeling better, it’s about creating a space where both can exist together.

Can you share something surprising about yourself?
Something that might surprise people is how much fear and self-doubt I’ve had to work through behind the scenes.

As a provider, I feel very confident in my medical knowledge and the care I give to my patients but stepping into entrepreneurship was a completely different experience. I went from being in a space where I felt fully competent to one where I was constantly questioning myself. I didn’t have a background in business, marketing, or branding, and there were moments where I felt like I didn’t belong in those conversations or wasn’t “qualified” to build something of my own.

Imposter syndrome was very real for me, especially in the beginning. I would second-guess decisions, compare myself to others, and wonder if I was doing enough or doing things the “right” way.

But over time, I’ve learned that growth comes from stepping into those uncomfortable spaces. I’ve had to trust myself, stay grounded in my purpose, and remind myself that just because something is new doesn’t mean I’m not capable.
