Conversations with Hennessy Darling

Today we’d like to introduce you to Hennessy Darling.

Hi Hennessy, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
Well at the age of 13, I was going through a lot mentality so in middle school I had a friend this specific day it was field day and we were playing we started acting as if we were in a movie, so once the day finished he said to me”hey we need to write a movie about this” and me I agree so from that day forward we called each other our characters name. But that was the first confirmation of God’s gift for me the second one is still around the same time my church at the time for black history month was going to do a stage play in a real theater and we spent weeks rehearsing the script and to be honest when I first saw a real script I was scared because I hated reading sometimes I still do till this day unless it’s a check lol. But sad to say we never did the stage play but that was when I started writing, now for anyone who knows me I’m a Tyler Perry addict and always have been since I was born which is where I also get my writing from just watching how he tells his stories it just makes me hungry to be in his spot. In high school my theater teacher Ms.Mahoney was thee best at her job and she and a few others has helped me confident wise sharing my stories by that time I have written 3 features films actually. But now I’m writing shorts and baby the stories I have for the world to see it’s gonna blow y’all wigs and hats off lol.

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
So for those who has worked in the film industry you know is easy to write and get a cast and crew but that budget is always going to open your eyes so for me it’s kinda smooth for Pre-production because of funding especially in Miami Gardens because we really don’t have that much resources or grants for filming there mainly in Broward, West Palm, or Miami Beach so try to get funding is my biggest obstacle ever but once that budget is in place we are on and popping baby.

Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
I am a diva who specializes in the art of film writing, directing, and photography I’m known for my student film “The Audacity” on YouTube, Makeup, and my big personality, the things im most proud of is My Trauma as a kid I really didn’t have the best childhood mentality and emotionally from family especially growing up openly gay in a black Christian house hold, I was depressed for long time 5 years of depression 3 of those of attempting suicide it was a big much at the time so when I say im proud of it im saying thank God I went through it because I wouldn’t be who I am today Confident, Honest, old-school, inspirational, and the life of the party baby. What sets me apart from others im myself so may people loose their gift trying to be someone else or trying to fit in that a waste of time and I don’t have time to waste.

What matters most to you? Why?
Oof what matters most to me personally is my happiness because I had a hard time with that as a kid loving myself for who I am.
