Today we’d like to introduce you to Kelsey Kiefer.
Hi Kelsey, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today?
My name is Kelsey Kiefer, on socials I go by Kelso. It’s a nickname my younger sister gave (yes it’s from that 70s show).
I’m originally from San Luis Obispo, California, and after a short time living in Mexico, I came back to the States to finish school, earning my degree in Communications and PR. I’m also a 400-hour certified Vinyasa yoga instructor, and I’ve been fascinated with astrology since I was nine years old.
The way I started in social media marketing was during COVID timeframe. I was working at a nightclub in a small town—Bakersfield. Fun fact: I was finishing up my senior year in college at the same time, studying communications and PR. It was a wild juggle, but it taught me early how to balance a lot.
From there, I went freelance, picking up hospitality clients, and then found myself working in Hollywood for a talent agency called Unruly. Eventually, I made my way to San Diego, where I joined a creative agency with some big-name clients. After that, I did digital marketing for Sycuan Casino.
All along, I was also rethinking my own brand. I started creating astrology TikToks—first just fun skits—but I realized I loved creating horoscopes and sharing lifestyle content. It let people get to know me—and I got to show up more authentically.
That’s the last six years in a nutshell—and it’s been quite the ride!
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
One big struggle was balancing creativity with the structure of a 9-to-5. I often felt like I was boxed in, and what I really wanted was to tap into my creative side more—working with brands but also expressing who I am online, without worrying about judgment. It took time, but embracing that has been freeing—and honestly, that struggle was part of getting me to where I am now!
Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
I’m a content creator at heart, and my specialty is creating astrology content—equal parts insightful and fun. But I don’t stop there! I love weaving in lifestyle, humor, and a dash of early 2000s nostalgia— Honestly, I joke about this I do kind of see myself as the Latina version of Elle Woods—driven, a little playful, and not take life too serious.
Alongside that, I’m also a hot yoga instructor at Yoga Box here in San Diego. My classes are a blend of strength, cardio, and endurance flows—set to either Latin reggaeton jungle flow or a little 2000s house music. A little something for everyone, am I right ?
Can you talk to us about how you think about risk?
I definitely see risk as part of growth. One of the biggest risks I took was leaving a stable job to freelance. I had no guarantee of success, but I trusted that stepping outside the box would let me build something authentic. Even teaching yoga was a leap—shifting from behind the scenes to being front and center in a studio. Risks can be scary, but for me, they’re about trusting your gut and knowing that even if it doesn’t go exactly as planned, you’ll learn something valuable along the way.
