Today we’d like to introduce you to Todd White.
Hi Todd, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
Born in 1969 in Texas, he came from humble roots. During his twenties he relocated to Hollywood and worked in the animation field, developing characters at some of the most renowned production studios in the country. He was even part of the lead team for the international hit cartoon series SpongeBob SquarePants.
During this period Todd started to forge his artistic style by experimenting with style and concept. He eventually arrived at the working method that now guides him through every piece. He always names his pieces first, visualizes faces and personalities, then develops each person’s story. In fact, he doesn’t paint at all until he can conceptually see that story in his head. And he always tells it as directly as possible – what isn’t necessary to the story doesn’t go on the canvas.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
It hasn’t always been a smooth road. Self-discipline can be a challenge at times, especially with the constant pressure to keep producing new work. The art world can also be tough to navigate, and I’ve had my share of experiences with people who weren’t always operating with integrity. On top of that, being a father of five means I’m always working to find the right balance between my work and my family.
Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
I’m a figurative artist working primarily in oil, focused on capturing the subtle, often unspoken moments of human interaction. I’m drawn to expression, body language, and the emotional tension between people, those in-between moments that tell a story without needing words. That’s really what I’ve become known for over time.
I’ve been fortunate to experience some incredible highlights throughout my career. Being named the official artist of the 49th GRAMMY Awards was a major milestone, as well as collaborating with brands like Coca-Cola Light on a limited edition series. I was also selected to commemorate The Wizard of Oz for its 70th anniversary, which was a truly special project.
My work has been exhibited internationally across the U.S., Canada, U.K., and Europe, and featured in publications like Esquire, Playboy, Vanity Fair, and InStyle.
I’ve also had the honor of receiving the Diana Princess of Wales Gold Medal for my contribution to charitable work through art, which is something I’m especially proud of.
Beyond that, I’ve had the opportunity to create custom works for collectors and musicians, including pieces for Zac Brown, and to see my work live in personal spaces, galleries, and collections around the world.
What I’m most proud of, though, is staying true to my voice and continuing to evolve it over time while connecting with people in a real way.
What sets my work apart is the narrative. Each piece invites the viewer to step in and finish the story themselves. There’s a balance of light and dark, elegance and edge, and a bit of mystery. I want people to see something of themselves in it, or recognize a moment they’ve lived. That connection is everything.
How can people work with you, collaborate with you or support you?
There are a number of ways to work with me and support what I do. The best place to start is through the galleries that represent my work, where collectors can acquire original pieces and limited editions.
I also take on select commissions and collaborative projects when it feels like a natural creative fit. Over the years, I’ve worked with brands and individuals on unique projects, and I’m always open to partnerships that align with my style and vision.
