Hidden Gems: Meet Elisheva Rogoff of Baby Toddler N Me

Today we’d like to introduce you to Elisheva Rogoff.

Hi Elisheva, so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
When I graduated from Tufts University I started working as an account executive at an advertising agency, but after I had my first child, I no longer wanted to work the long hours. I quit to be a full time caregiver to my 3 children. When my youngest started preschool, I decided it was time to get back to working, but I wanted a job with the flexibility to allow me to be there for my children. I got a job at the preschool where my children were in school, and bounced around different age groups – between being a full time teacher and part time in the parent-child program. When Covid started, the school where I was working stopped letting parents in the building. For awhile we tried the parent-child classes on zoom, but that’s not developmentally appropriate for babies, and didn’t provide the parents with the support they need either. That’s when my business was born. I started Baby Toddler N Me in the fall of 2020 because the families in my classes encouraged me to bring my class outside. The beauty of this new business model, is that I teach the classes in many different neighborhoods. Many families are able to walk to classes, or at least have a shorter drive.

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
The most challenging part of my business is finding new clients and organizing the schedule each new school year. Babies grow, start school, and I have to constantly refresh my client base. Sometimes a given location goes from being a huge class to a very small one from year to year, so I have to be flexible about moving the classes to where the biggest audience will gather. My reputation and word of mouth get me the most business, plus web searches for baby classes, Facebook mom groups, and Instagram.

Thanks – so what else should our readers know about Baby Toddler N Me?
Baby, Toddler, n’ Me offers outdoor classes for babies 4 months to about 3 years old that include music, movement, sensory and fine motor activities plus parenting support and community building. I also introduce pre-math and pre-reading activities in an age-appropriate style. There’s a little bit of everything in my classes and we switch activities very often to keep the babies and toddlers engaged. The classes are one hour and I am in a different neighborhood every day of the week. I also do birthday parties and private group classes on request.

I love watching the babies grow and develop, start doing the hand motions or singing the songs along with us. I also love helping families struggling with all the challenges of parenting. My classes offer a balance of time where the attention is all on a group activity, and time for parents to talk with one another and learn from each other, form new friendships for their kids and for themselves.

I think what sets my class apart from others, is, it’s not just a music class, it’s not just a sensory class, it’s not just an art class, it’s not just a parenting support class, it’s a little bit of everything.

If you had to, what characteristic of yours would you give the most credit to?
Communication and being responsive to my clients and their needs is key to building my business. That paired with the energy, enthusiasm and planning that goes into my classes continues to help me build my business.
