Today we’d like to introduce you to Alexander Webber.
Hi Alexander, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstory.
I’ve always believed that every strand of hair tells a story. For me, hair has never just been about looking good – it’s about identity, confidence, and ritual. That belief has shaped my entire journey.
For over a decade, my husband and I owned and operated an award‑winning salon. Those years were incredibly formative. We were behind the chair every day, connecting with clients, listening to what they loved, what they struggled with, and what they wished existed in haircare.
During that time, we found ourselves constantly mixing and experimenting together in the back room – tweaking products, layering treatments, and trying to create the results we couldn’t quite find in a single bottle. That’s really where the seed for HONEYSUCC’L JO was planted. We weren’t just dreaming about a brand; we were actively, hands‑on formulating as a team long before it had a name.
Our deep connection to South Africa and the Cape Honeysuckle flower, combined with the legacy of family names like Honey and Josephine, gave us a powerful sense of purpose. We wanted to create a line that felt like a true reflection of our values: clean, luxurious, rooted in heritage, and centered on the idea of timeless beauty.
Eventually, we made a bold, intentional move: we sold our salon with the clear plan to launch HONEYSUCC’L JO. Walking away from an award‑winning, established business wasn’t easy, but we knew that all those years of salon experience and our own formulating work had prepared us for this next chapter.
Today, HONEYSUCC’L JO is the culmination of that journey—two founders who spent years behind the chair and in the lab together, turning real client needs, family heritage, and our shared passion for hair health into a clean‑luxury ritual people can experience at home.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
It hasn’t been a smooth road, and I’ve learned to accept that building something meaningful usually isn’t.
Shifting from owning an award-winning salon to creating a haircare line from scratch was a huge transition. In the salon, you get instant feedback. You see your client’s face light up the moment you turn them toward the mirror. With a brand, you can work for months or years before anyone outside your circle even touches the product. That slower validation was an adjustment for me.
Formulation was one of the toughest parts. My husband and I weren’t just choosing pretty packaging and calling it a day. We were both deeply involved in the actual mixing and testing. There were so many rounds that didn’t feel quite right. A formula would be too heavy, or not hydrating enough, or the scent wouldn’t match the feeling we wanted to create. We were committed to clean ingredients, high performance, and a truly luxurious sensory experience all at once, and getting that balance right took time, patience, and a lot of do-overs.
On top of that, there were all the behind-the-scenes realities: learning regulatory requirements, navigating manufacturing and supply chain delays, reworking timelines, and carrying the financial weight of investing in something before it exists in the world. Selling our salon to focus on HONEYSUCC’L JO was a very intentional decision, but it also came with moments of doubt and fear. Walking away from something proven to build something new is never completely comfortable.
Emotionally, it has also been vulnerable. This brand is tied to my story, my family, and our shared vision. So when things went wrong, it didn’t just feel like a business setback. It felt personal. But those challenges forced us to be very clear about who we are and what we stand for: clean luxury, integrity in our ingredients, honoring our heritage, and turning haircare into a ritual of self-respect and self-love.
So no, it hasn’t been smooth. But every struggle sharpened the vision and made HONEYSUCC’L JO stronger, more intentional, and more aligned with the kind of brand I want to put into the world.
Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
I create luxury haircare that treats washing and styling as a ritual, not a chore.
My work with HONEYSUCC’L JO sits at the intersection of clean beauty, hair health, and storytelling. My husband and I come from the salon world, so everything we do is grounded in real experience behind the chair and a deep understanding of what hair actually needs to look and feel its best.
What I do and what we specialize in
I’m the co-founder and creator behind HONEYSUCC’L JO, a clean-luxury haircare line built around a focused ritual:
LUSTRE WASH Shampoo
LUSTRE RINSE Conditioner
LUSTRE BALM Styling Cream
We specialize in high-performance formulas that combine:
Fermented rice water for strength, repair, and elasticity
Pure honey infusion for moisture, softness, and shine
Sodium hyaluronate and botanical oils like argan, coconut, sunflower, and avocado for deep hydration and frizz control
All of our products are sulfate-free, paraben-free, cruelty-free, and formulated with clean, ethically sourced ingredients that meet UK standards, so they’re suitable for a global audience.
What I’m known for
I’m known for being very hands-on with formulation and experience. I care about three things equally:
Performance – hair should feel stronger, softer, shinier, and healthier over time
Clean standards – ingredients that align with modern “clean beauty” expectations
Ritual and sensory experience – rich textures and our signature honeysuckle–vanilla scent that make everyday haircare feel indulgent
I’m also known for bringing a warm, human, salon-first perspective into the brand. This isn’t a faceless line. It comes from years of listening to real clients and understanding their frustrations with products that were either “clean but underwhelming” or “effective but harsh and heavy.”
What I’m most proud of
I’m most proud that we didn’t take shortcuts.
We spent over a year testing and refining formulas until they truly felt worthy of being called “luxury.”
We built a clear, cohesive ingredient story instead of chasing trends.
We created a line that people can feel good about using every day, both in terms of results and values.
I’m also deeply proud that HONEYSUCC’L JO is rooted in real heritage and family. The name is inspired by Cape Honeysuckle on the South African coast and beloved family names like Honey and Josephine. It feels like a true extension of who I am, not just a concept on a shelf.
What sets us apart
A distinct hero system, not just a buzzword
Many brands are built around a single ingredient or a vague “premium” promise. We’re built around a clear, memorable system: fermented rice water + honey infusion + hyaluronic acid + botanical oils. That combination delivers strength, moisture, shine, and hydration in a way that’s easy to understand and genuinely effective.
Ritual over routine
We don’t look at haircare as just “wash and go.” Our whole positioning is about turning everyday washing into a cherished ritual of self-respect and timeless beauty. From the scent to the texture to the way the products are meant to be used together, the goal is for people to slow down, exhale, and feel cared for.
Salon roots and real-world insight
Because we owned and operated an award-winning salon for over a decade, we’ve seen every hair type, every concern, and every product story under the sun. That experience keeps us honest. We know what works, what doesn’t, and what people are tired of hearing. Our products are created to perform in real life, not just in marketing copy.
Authentic story and values
HONEYSUCC’L JO is grounded in:
Family legacy and generational wisdom
South African coastal heritage and the symbolism of Cape Honeysuckle
A commitment to authenticity, kindness, and sustainability
We’re not just selling shampoo and conditioner. We’re inviting people into a story where they feel cherished, seen, and valued.
In short, my work is about creating haircare that honors both the science of healthy hair and the emotion of feeling beautiful, confident, and cared for—every time you step into the shower or style your hair.
What do you like best about our city? What do you like least?
What I love most about Miami is the energy and culture. The city feels alive all the time. I’m constantly inspired by the mix of people, languages, music, and style. There’s a boldness here that encourages you to show up as your full self, and that spirit definitely influences how I think about beauty and haircare.
What I like least is how hectic it can be. The traffic, the construction, the constant movement can feel overwhelming, especially when you’re trying to slow down or focus. You really have to be intentional about carving out quiet moments for yourself in a city that never really turns off.
