Meet Sayra Besner of Sayra C. Therapy

Today we’d like to introduce you to Sayra Besner.

Hi Sayra, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
I began my path into therapy after getting involved in extracurricular activities during college that sparked my interest in social work and helping others navigate difficult life experiences. That passion brought me to graduate school in Miami, where I earned my degree and began working in both inpatient and outpatient mental health clinics. Over the years, I gained experience on both the service side and the administrative side of mental health care, which gave me a well-rounded understanding of the field. After going through my own experience with postpartum anxiety and a divorce, I felt a strong calling to open my own practice to support other women and men navigating major life transitions. Today, I have a private practice with a wonderfully aligned clientele, and I truly love the work I do. Therapy with me isn’t filled with clinical jargon or meant to feel intimidating, it’s more like having a meaningful conversation with a trusted friend. My approach is human, warm, and relatable, and that’s what makes the experience special.

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
One of the biggest challenges I’ve faced in starting and growing my practice has had very little to do with the therapy itself. As therapists, we are highly trained in clinical work, but most of us receive little to no training in running a business. Navigating the business side, marketing, technology, working with insurance platforms, and learning how to present yourself online has been a completely different world for me. The technology aspect alone can feel overwhelming at times. I both love it and hate it; it’s exciting to build something of your own, but it also comes with a steep learning curve. In many ways, it feels like you either sink or swim. Interestingly, my challenges have never really been client-related, they’ve been about figuring out systems, platforms, and social media. Sometimes I joke that I wish I were 25 again and could create a social media reel with my eyes closed. But the reality is that I’m a bit social media–illiterate, and you just roll with it and keep learning as you go.

Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your business?
My therapy practice focuses on helping both women and men build emotional regulation skills and gain clarity around their goals during major life transitions. These transitions can look different for everyone, starting college, relocating for a new job, navigating divorce, dating again, or adjusting to the postpartum period. I work with a carefully selected group of clients and use consultation calls to make sure the fit is right, because meaningful change requires readiness and commitment. My approach is honest and straightforward, I’m not here to offer false promises or simply go through the motions. The work we do together requires openness, humility, and a willingness to look inward. If you’re at a point where you can say, “I feel stuck, and I’m truly ready to change,” then you’re likely a great fit for the work we do here.

Let’s talk about our city – what do you love? What do you not love?
What I love most about Miami is the warmth and the lifestyle that comes with it. No matter what kind of mood I’m in because I’m human too, being able to step outside, go for a walk, get some sunshine, and focus on health and wellness can completely shift my mindset and help me navigate life’s challenges. There’s something really powerful about being outdoors here. What I struggle with, though, is how transient the city can be. Miami is such a major travel destination that people are constantly coming and going, which can make it difficult to form deep, genuine connections. Sometimes just when you find great friends or potential partners, they end up moving away, and it can make building lasting relationships challenging. That said, I truly do love living here. The culture, the incredible food scene, and the ability to experience so many different lifestyles all in one place make it special. If you want to be trendy and social, you can; if you want to explore art or listen to amazing live music, you can do that too. And if you want complete peace and quiet, an afternoon alone at the beach with a book does the trick. I especially love going to Key Biscayne because it feels so much more relaxed than Miami Beach, it’s the perfect place to unplug, hide from the crowds, and just be at peace
