Today we’d like to introduce you to Jorge Tijerino.
Hi Jorge, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
I came to Miami from Nicaragua when I was about four years old. My parents made that move chasing the American Dream, and honestly that never leaves you. Watching them sacrifice everything to build a better life here is something that pushes me every single day to make the most of every opportunity I have.
My career started pretty humbly. I became a part-time bank teller right out of high school. That was my entry point into the world of finance, and over time I worked my way up into wealth management, where I now serve as Chief Investment Officer at VIM Wealth Management. It’s a long way from where I started, but I think that path gave me a perspective on money and financial planning that a lot of people in this industry don’t have.
The tech side has honestly always been there in parallel. I’ve been the person friends, family, and clients call when something breaks or they need a system set up for as long as I can remember. Last year I decided to make it official and launched JT4 Technologies here in Miami, where we help small businesses with everything from IT and A/V to AI-powered solutions. Two very different worlds on the surface, but to me they’ve always been connected; both are about helping people build something and protecting what they’ve worked hard for.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
Honestly? No. And I think anyone who tells you their road was smooth is leaving something out. There were plenty of moments of self-doubt, especially around starting JT4 Technologies. Even when you know you’re good at something, there’s a big difference between doing it informally and actually betting on yourself, putting your name on it, and going all in. That fear of failure is real, and I’d be lying if I said it wasn’t something I had to push through.
The balancing act has probably been the hardest part though. I have a family, I’m running two businesses, and there are only so many hours in a day. There were stretches where I was stretched so thin that something always felt like it was slipping, whether that was time with my family, or not giving one part of the business the attention it deserved. You just learn to prioritize, get better at managing your time, and lean on the people around you.
But I think struggle is part of the story. Growing up watching my parents navigate a new country with nothing but determination put things in perspective for me early. Compared to what they went through, my fears of starting a business feel manageable. That context keeps me grounded when things get hard.
Appreciate you sharing that. What should we know about JT4 Technologies?
JT4 Technologies is a Miami-based tech company built specifically for small businesses. We handle everything from network infrastructure and A/V installations to IT support, but where we really live right now is AI. Specifically, helping small business owners and their teams actually understand it, use it, and integrate it into the way they work every day. Not just handing them a tool and walking away — we train, we implement, and we stick around.
What sets us apart is honestly pretty simple. Most tech companies send you a guy who’s great with computers but has no idea how a business actually runs. I have an MBA from Florida International University, I come from finance and wealth management, and I’ve worked with business owners my entire career. I understand the operational and strategic side of running a company, and that combination is rare in this space. When I sit down with a client, I’m not just thinking about their network, I’m thinking about their workflow, their team, their bottom line.
The AI training side is where I’m most excited right now. Businesses we’ve worked with have taken processes that used to eat up hours of their week and brought them down to minutes. Whether it’s automating client communication, streamlining back office tasks, or just getting a team comfortable and confident using AI tools, the impact is immediate and real. A lot of small business owners feel like AI is something for big companies with big budgets. We’re here to change that.
If we knew you growing up, how would we have described you?
I was the kid who was always taking things apart to see how they worked. My parents weren’t thrilled about it, but I couldn’t help myself. My favorite toy growing up was actually a logic board kit my uncle bought me from Radio Shack, you could build a radio, a light, all kinds of things from it. That curiosity about how things work has never really gone away.
Outside of that I was a huge baseball fan, and I was always cooking up some kind of side hustle, mowing lawns, washing cars, you name it. The entrepreneurial bug was there early, I just didn’t have a word for it yet.
Socially I was pretty quiet, especially when I was younger. Coming over from Nicaragua at four years old meant I was still figuring out the language, and on top of that I had a pretty bad stutter that I was really self conscious about for a long time. It held me back in ways I didn’t fully realize until later. But I think those experiences also built something in me. When you have to work harder just to be heard, you develop a kind of resilience that sticks with you.
