Today we’d like to introduce you to Jhon Toro.
Hi JHON, so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
When I look back at the journey of John’s Garage Door Fence and Automatic Gates Inc., I don’t just see projects completed — I see people, relationships, and almost 30 years of steady, honest work across South Florida.
What began as a small, family-operated business has grown into a company that today serves more than 2,500 homes, commercial facilities, luxury developments, condo hotels, and industrial properties throughout the region. That number is something I carry with pride — not because it represents volume, but because it represents trust.
From residential neighborhoods to high-end communities like Indian Creek, from the elegance of Bal Harbour to major projects in West Palm Beach, we’ve had the privilege of installing and servicing luxury garage doors, custom fencing, and advanced automatic gate systems that demand precision and discretion. In these environments, every detail matters — aesthetics, engineering, safety, automation, and durability under South Florida’s coastal conditions.
But our growth has never been just about expansion into luxury. It’s also been about consistency in the everyday.
Today, we are a true one stop shop. We provide:
New garage door installations
Fence and automatic gate systems
Daily garage door repairs
Emergency services
Opener replacements and motor systems
Structural upgrades
Preventive maintenance programs for commercial companies and condo hotels
Our preventive maintenance division has become one of the strongest pillars of our company. Reliable South Florida commercial facilities depend on doors operating safely every single day. We help them avoid downtime, protect their operations, and reduce long-term costs. That level of responsibility requires discipline, organization, and a team that truly cares.
And that brings me to the most important part of this story: my team.
I am deeply grateful for every technician, installer, office coordinator, and project manager who has been part of this journey. Growth doesn’t happen alone. It happens because of people who show up early, stay late, solve problems, and take pride in their craft. Many of them have grown alongside the company, and together we’ve built a culture of accountability, precision, and respect.
Over the years, I’ve seen something beautiful happen — our clients’ confidence in us has grown just as much as we have. Many of our customers don’t call us once; they stay with us. Developers bring us into new projects. Property managers trust us with ongoing contracts. Homeowners refer us to family and friends. That kind of trust cannot be bought — it must be earned, one job at a time.
Through economic shifts, hurricanes, evolving building codes, and new automation technologies, we’ve adapted and strengthened. We’ve invested in better equipment, advanced training, and stronger systems so we can continue delivering excellence in both residential and commercial environments.
After almost 30 years, I still approach this business the same way I did at the beginning: with responsibility and gratitude.
Every door we install represents security for a family.
Every gate system we automate represents protection for a property.
Every maintenance contract represents confidence in our consistency.
This company carries my name, and that means something to me. It means integrity. It means commitment. It means long-term relationships over short-term gains.
Serving more than 2,500 properties across South Florida is an achievement — but for me, the real success is knowing we’ve built something solid, trusted, and respected.
And we’re just getting started.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
It definitely has not been a completely smooth road — and I say that with honesty and gratitude, because the challenges are what shaped us.
In this industry, you are working with moving systems, heavy materials, strict safety codes, weather conditions, and tight construction timelines. One mistake can be costly, so from the beginning we had to learn discipline, structure, and accountability very quickly.
One of the biggest challenges was growth itself. When demand increases, you can’t just grow fast — you have to grow right. Finding skilled technicians who truly understand the responsibility behind installing and servicing garage doors, gates, and automation systems is not easy. We had to invest heavily in training, build internal systems, and create a culture where quality is never sacrificed for speed.
South Florida also presents unique challenges. Hurricanes, salt air corrosion, changing building codes, and high client expectations — especially in luxury and commercial developments — require constant adaptation. We’ve had to stay ahead of regulations, upgrade materials, and refine installation techniques to meet both safety and aesthetic standards.
Economic fluctuations were another test. Construction cycles rise and fall, and during slower periods we had to be strategic — strengthening our preventive maintenance division and daily repair services to maintain stability. That decision helped us build long-term recurring relationships rather than relying only on new installations.
There were also moments where we had to rebuild systems internally — improving logistics, communication, inventory management, and response times. Scaling to serve more than 2,500 properties required structure, not just hard work.
But every obstacle taught us something:
To plan better.
To train stronger.
To communicate clearer.
To value long-term trust over short-term profit.
Looking back, I can say the road wasn’t smooth — but it was worth it. Every challenge refined our standards and strengthened our reputation. And in this business, reputation is everything.
Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know?
John’s Garage Door, Fence and Automatic Gates Inc. is a full-service garage door, gate, fencing, and automation company serving all of South Florida for nearly 30 years. We are a solid, experienced team of 20 professionals — each specialized in their field — from certified technicians and installers to project managers and support staff. Every member of our team understands that we are not just installing systems; we are protecting properties, investments, and people.
We operate as a true one stop shop.
We handle:
Residential garage door installations and repairs
Luxury custom garage doors and architectural integration
Commercial and industrial overhead doors
High-performance rolling steel doors and security systems
Automatic gate systems and access control
Fence design and installation
Preventive maintenance programs for commercial facilities, condo hotels, and large developments
Emergency service and daily repair operations
What sets us apart is not just experience — it’s structure, consistency, and long-term commitment. In this field, many companies focus only on installation. We focus on the entire lifecycle of the system: design, installation, maintenance, repair, and long-term performance.
We specialize in precision installations for high-end residential developments, commercial facilities, and large-scale projects across Miami, Bal Harbour, West Palm Beach, and exclusive communities such as Indian Creek. At the same time, we proudly serve everyday homeowners and small businesses with the same level of professionalism and care. No project is “too small” and no development is “too complex.”
Brand-wise, what makes us most proud is our reputation for reliability. We have served more than 2,500 homes, commercial facilities, and developments throughout South Florida. Many of our clients have been with us for years through preventive maintenance programs and recurring service agreements. That level of trust is not built overnight — it is earned through consistency.
We are known for:
Showing up when we say we will
Clear communication
Clean, organized job sites
Technically correct installations
Fast response times
Safety compliance and code knowledge
Long-term maintenance strategies that reduce costly replacements
We have also evolved significantly. What started as a garage door company has grown into a comprehensive service provider that supports commercial property managers, condo associations, hotels, and developers with structured maintenance programs that prevent downtime and protect their assets.
Our readers should know this: we are not a volume-driven company chasing quick jobs. We are relationship-driven. We believe in building long-term partnerships with homeowners, builders, property managers, and developers.
Most importantly, we are proud of our team. Twenty professionals who take ownership of their work every day. Their expertise, discipline, and pride in craftsmanship are the foundation of our brand.
At the end of the day, garage doors and gates are about security, functionality, and design — but behind every successful installation is trust. That is what we protect the most.
Can you share something surprising about yourself?
One thing that may surprise people about us is this:
We don’t really see ourselves as being in the “garage door business.”
Yes, we install them.
Yes, we repair them.
Yes, we design and automate them.
But what we truly do is manage access, security, and responsibility — often for properties worth millions of dollars.
Most people see a garage door as a simple moving panel. What they don’t see is the engineering behind it, the weight calculations, wind-load compliance in South Florida, motor torque specifications, balance calibration, safety reversal systems, and how one small misalignment can compromise an entire structure. They also don’t see that in commercial environments — condo hotels, industrial facilities, luxury developments — that door may open and close hundreds of times a day. If it fails, operations stop.
Here’s the surprising part:
Our day often begins before the city wakes up.
We schedule commercial preventive maintenance at off-hours so businesses don’t lose productivity. We answer emergency calls when families are locked out late at night. We quietly prevent breakdowns that never make it to social media because the problem was solved before it became visible.
Another thing people may not realize is how deeply relationship-driven our company is. Many of our clients have trusted us for years. Some of the luxury homes we service today belong to families whose previous properties we installed decades ago. That continuity is something we value tremendously.
And perhaps most surprising of all — in an industry often known for quick jobs and short-term fixes — we have built a structured, disciplined team of 20 professionals who approach every project like it’s a long-term investment, not a transaction.
We don’t chase volume.
We build trust.
That mindset has shaped who we are more than anything else.
