Today we’d like to introduce you to Alejandra Daguerre.
Hi Alejandra, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
I am a psychologist and have worked for 30 years in the clinical field with adolescents and adults.
Through my work, which is by nature, deeply intimate and confidential, I began to feel the desire to bring psychology to a more accessible and practical place, closer to everyday life.
It was at that point that I began to write my first book. A collection of therapeutic short stories titled “The Stories I Tell Myself” or “Los Cuentos que yo me Cuento” in Spanish, narratives designed to help us pause for a moment, reflect, and transform behavioral patterns that hold us back: our fears, our ways of loving, and our experiences of grief.
Later came a book filled with deep emotion and love called “Mother Courage” (available in Miami in both Spanish and English), which is dedicated to mothers who are raising a child with a disability, embracing diversity day by day.
Currently, I host a Spanish-language podcast called “Un mate y te cuento” (Spotify / YouTube), where every Sunday I share a new episode that explores different topics from a warm and emotional perspective.
I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
Working in Mental Health, the greatest challenge is to approach each patient with professionalism and deep human commitment. We must remember that every person who seeks therapy arrives carrying pain, distress, and emotional overwhelm.
One of the main challenges is managing expectations. We often wish for immediate relief or a magical cure, but healing involves processes that usually take longer than we expect.
Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
I am a psychologist and writer.
Through my participation in the media (radio, TV, and podcasts), I aim to make psychology more accessible and approachable, so it can be applied to everyday life rather than remaining as an abstract concept.
Mental health is a fundamental part of our overall health.
Is there a quality that you most attribute to your success?
On a personal level, I am dedicated and resilient.
I always strive to offer an empathetic perspective, because in such a fast-paced world, this means pausing to truly listen, being open and receptive, turning off screens for a moment, and reconnecting with our humanity.
On a professional level, my curiosity motivates me to keep learning and to seek new approaches and perspectives within my field.
