Daily Inspiration: Meet Suttun

Today we’d like to introduce you to Suttun.

Hi Suttun , we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
Growing up in New York City, I was lucky to be surrounded by the golden era of house music. Spending nights inspired by legendary rooms like Sound Factory and Pacha NYC as well as Space Miami really shaped my ear and my long-term vision as an artist.

While I’ve been incredibly blessed to build a strong career playing hip-hop, open format, and reggaeton, I always felt a deeper pull toward house music. It’s where I always knew I was headed. That realization became crystal clear during a real “lightbulb moment” when I landed on the name SUTTUN a tribute to Sutton Place, the neighborhood where I grew up. The name had this timeless, almost Avicii of Tiesto inspired energy to it. It just felt right.

Today, I’m grateful to play the music I truly love tech house, afro house, big room, and disco rocking some of the best venues in the country, including Mary Lou’s —a personal favorite—and E11even Miami recently voted the number one club in the country.

My journey has always been about evolution—but house music has always been the mission at the core.

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
When people ask about my path, I tell them this — learning to DJ is one thing, learning the game is another. The 10,000 hours in the studio matter, but nobody teaches you about the politics or how important it is to find your sound early and stick to it.

I loved playing every genre, and that versatility honestly delayed me stepping fully into house — even though it was always the real mission. If you only knew how many nights I practiced until the sun came up while the world slept. It’s not an easy hustle.

But patience is everything. The SUTTUN project finally gave me that balance. Now, playing five-hour house and disco sets in Miami, feeling that energy on the dance floor — that’s the payoff. And it makes every sacrifice worth it.

Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
I’ve been fortunate to build an incredible dj career under my real name, Dalton — traveling the world as a DJ and earning recognition along the way, including a Global Spin Award in 2015 for Breakthrough Open Format DJ in New York City. Through my collective, The Gifted Program, I also produced records that crossed into mainstream radio, which was a huge milestone creatively.
But at the core, DJing and music production have always been my true calling. It’s not just what I do — it’s who I am.

Now, I’m fully stepping into this next chapter with SUTTUN — locked in on dance music and committed to carving out my voice in the genre. I’m excited to show that I have something real to say in this space.

What matters most to you?
For me, it’s about knowing I never half-assed it. When you see me at a gig or hear a new record from me, I want you to know it came from real preparation. Hours in the studio. Hours behind the decks. Obsessing over the details most people will never see.

I take pride in showing up fully ready — mentally, technically, creatively. And when it’s all said and done, I want to walk away knowing I gave everything I had. No shortcuts. No excuses. Just the absolute best version of myself.
