Today we’d like to introduce you to Allison Money.
Hi Allison, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
I launched my agency eight years ago after building a career in marketing and communications. I began at the Department of Defense at U.S. Southern Command while finishing my master’s in International Administration at the University of Miami. From there, I moved into roles at a couple global PR firms. The pace of agency life was nonstop, and I began to realize I wanted to move in-house to focus deeply on a single brand. That shift led me to an incredible role at Endeavor, where I oversaw marketing for the Miami office. Endeavor supports high impact entrepreneurs around the world as they scale and strengthen their ecosystems, and being surrounded by that level of entrepreneurial talent sparked a thought I had never seriously considered: what if I tried building something of my own?
After a few years, I made the decision to leave and take a chance on myself. My boss was incredibly supportive and even became my first client. I gave myself six months to see if I could make it on my own before returning to a traditional role. The work took off quickly, and since then, my team has had the privilege of supporting clients including the University of Miami, AutoNation, the University of North Florida, Uni K Wax Studios and many in the luxury yachting industry.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
One of the biggest obstacles for me early on was that my expertise was in marketing and communications, not business operations or finance. I had to get up to speed on balance sheets, payroll and the strange, complicated world of taxes. There was a real learning curve, and I had to be willing to ask questions, make mistakes and keep moving forward.
Another challenge was growing into the role of being the final decision maker. Shifting from being an employee to being the head of a company meant I no longer had a boss to escalate tough situations to. I had to learn how to navigate difficult client conversations, set boundaries and advocate directly for what was best for the work and for my team. It feels natural now, but in the beginning it required a genuine mindset shift.
Thanks – so what else should our readers know about Ad Astra Communications?
Founded in 2019, Ad Astra Communications was created with a simple belief: the traditional agency model needed a rethink. I had seen firsthand how high turnover, inflated costs and slow timelines often left clients with work produced by teams who were stretched thin or still very early in their careers. I wanted to build something better, something that felt both high caliber and truly collaborative.
Our team comes from some of the most respected communications agencies and consultancies in the world, bringing with them strong training and a deep understanding of how to deliver exceptional work. At the same time, we have been intentional about leaving behind the parts of the old playbook that didn’t serve clients well. Ad Astra was shaped to be agile, efficient and grounded in real partnership.
What we are known for is becoming a true extension of our clients’ teams. We don’t shout instructions from our high horse. We build strategies with you, not for you, and we stay deeply engaged throughout execution. That collaborative approach, paired with our commitment to excellence, is what sets us apart and what keeps clients with us for years.
Brand wise, I am most proud of the team we have built and how they embody our values in every interaction. Their work ethic and compassion for clients show up in every project and have become a defining part of our identity.
What I want readers to know is that Ad Astra offers more than services. We offer partnership. Our goal is to create outstanding work you feel proud of and to make the process feel seamless and supported from day one.
What do you like and dislike about the city?
What I love most about Miami is its energy. I moved here from Kansas City in 2014 for graduate school, and I was immediately drawn to the passion, creativity and blend of cultures that shape daily life. It feels like a place where anything can happen. The city is large enough to attract global changemakers yet still intimate enough that you can cross paths with them, build relationships and meet people from all over the world who are doing fascinating work. That sense of possibility is incredibly special.
What I like least is tied to the realities that eventually led me to split my time between Miami and Chicago. I missed some of the grounded, approachable qualities of the Midwest. Miami is vibrant and exciting, but no one would ever call it low key. There are also the common pain points that residents talk about often, including affordability and the challenges around public education for my kids.
