Today we’d like to introduce you to Nicole Gates.
Hi Nicole, so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
I’m so fortunate to have had a wonderful start in media! I was a radio DJ on some of the best radio markets in the Southeast, which led me to a wonderful time as Promotions Director for 101 5 LITE FM! Big shout out to the epic Rob Sydney who gave me a shot that brought this GA girl to Miami. I then worked with my mentor Suzanne McDowell at Circle of One Marketing as her Director of Business Development. That led to the creation of Overtown Media, my small and unique boutique integrated media marketing firm. After falling in love with this community, I had the fortune of teaming up with Executive Chef Karim Bryant and together we created Lil Greenhouse Grill!
I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
If the road was smooth, I wouldn’t have these amazing stories to tell! Lol! You’ve got to be something special to open and operate a restaurant. Our 12 years have seen us grow from a food truck to our current location, which has survived funding problems, eviction, covid, the pandemic, recession… And an AWESOME visit from Oprah Winfrey!

Can you share something surprising about yourself?
For 10 years, I was a radio DJ that went by the name “Nikki Nicole!” Some of the best times of my career! My favorite interview was Hilary Clinton! She was awesome!
