Hi Svetlana, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
I’m the founder of Mathilda & Moon, a Miami-based brand inspired by family, intention, and everyday rituals. I was born in Ukraine, raised in Russia, and have lived in the United States for over 20 years. After living in different parts of the country, I’m proud to now call Miami my home. It’s where the brand was born, designed, and where we ship from to clients nationwide.
My background is in luxury retail, where I spent many years working with top-tier clients and global fashion houses. That experience shaped my appreciation for craftsmanship, attention to detail, and the importance of creating products that feel thoughtful and personal.
Becoming a mother was the turning point. After my daughter, Mathilda, was born, our bedtime rituals became some of the most meaningful moments of my day. They made me reflect on how little attention we often give to sleep, even though it’s essential to our well-being.
Inspired by those moments, I created Mathilda & Moon in Miami, sourcing the finest 100% mulberry silk to craft products that elevate the way we rest. The brand is designed for individuals and families alike, rooted in the belief that sleep should be cherished and everyday moments deserve to feel beautiful.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
It hasn’t been a smooth road, but it has been a very real one. Building Mathilda & Moon has happened alongside a full professional life, motherhood, and family responsibilities, which means growth has often taken place in early mornings, late nights, and the quiet hours most people don’t see.
One of the biggest challenges has been time and mental bandwidth. As a working mother and founder, there’s rarely a clear separation between roles. I’ve had to learn how to stay focused, make decisions efficiently, and move the brand forward even when time was limited and energy was stretched.
There are moments when progress feels slower than expected, but I’ve come to understand that patience is part of building something with integrity. Every step – from sourcing materials to refining the product and customer experience – requires intention and consistency. That discipline has shaped the brand just as much as creativity has.
While the journey hasn’t been easy, it’s been deeply empowering. Balancing multiple roles has strengthened my confidence and reinforced the belief that meaningful brands are built through persistence, clarity, and a willingness to keep going, even when the path isn’t effortless.
