Today we’d like to introduce you to Andrea Covarrubias.
Hi Andrea, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstory with our readers?
Hello VoyageMIA reader! My story started as a little kid in Venezuela with big dreams of traveling the world. While we were fortunate to travel to Florida many times, my heart desired more. I’ve always loved movies and the entertainment world as a whole, and seeing exotic destinations on screen made me dream of experiencing them myself one day. Travel, to me, was never just about vacations; it represented freedom, curiosity, and possibility. That’s where it all started: with a dream.
From there, once I moved to the US and started working, my ultimate goal was to save enough money to travel. Little by little, I became more financially educated and made intentional decisions to prioritize a travel fund. That process taught me that travel doesn’t require unlimited money, just strategy and commitment. Eventually, I was able to afford my first trip to Los Angeles, and soon after, international trips followed. Nowadays I’m proud to say I’ve traveled to over 33 countries, and the list will keep growing!
Everything changed (or really, everything started) during COVID. I got furloughed from my job and suddenly had all this time to figure out my next move. I started like many people, binge-watching Netflix, then moved into online courses, and eventually decided to build something of my own. What began as an idea for a concierge service evolved into a blog, a personal brand, and UGC creation. That unexpected pause became the moment I turned my passion for travel into a purposeful platform.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
It has not been a smooth road. As an immigrant, there’s a constant need to adapt. I arrived in a new country with no savings, no friends, and no guaranteed job. Just a resume, a dream to “make it,” and thankfully, family support and a roof over my head. That experience shaped both my resilience and my perspective on opportunity.
While I arrived with a strong level of English, I continued improving over time. One of the reasons I chose to develop content for Cova Travels in English was to challenge myself to become a better writer. That decision also allowed me to connect with a broader, global audience while staying true to my roots.
Other challenges include adapting to new technologies, such as the rise of AI and tools like ChatGPT, and finding ways to ensure that my personal experience, insights, and human perspective continue to add value in a rapidly evolving digital landscape. I see technology as a tool, not a replacement for authenticity and lived experiences.
As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
My main passion project, and what I’m best known for, is Cova Travels. It’s the platform where I share the travel knowledge I’ve gathered over the years and continue to document everything I’m learning along the way. Cova Travels is equal parts inspiration, education, joy, and real-life travel experiences. Through blogs and video content, I share travel experiences in approachable, bite-sized ways that are both aspirational and practical. My goal is to make travel feel attainable, not intimidating.
I studied Mass Communications in Venezuela and have worked in marketing since graduating. Currently, I work in B2B marketing within the travel industry (quite fitting, huh?). It’s the perfect alignment of my interests and expertise. I’m grateful to have a full-time role in an industry I love, where I’ve gained deep insight into how the business and corporate side of travel operates. That behind-the-scenes knowledge heavily informs how I create content and collaborate with brands.
I believe what sets me apart from other creators is my firsthand experience working within the industry. I understand brand expectations when reaching out to creators because I’ve been on that side: negotiating, building, and managing influencer and content creator plans myself. Combining my professional marketing experience with my skills in filming, editing, and on-camera storytelling makes me a well-rounded and strategic creative partner. I don’t just create content, I create content with business objectives in mind.
Is there anything else you’d like to share with our readers?
The most important lessons I’ve learned are simple but powerful: doing a few things well is better than juggling too many ideas, mental focus is essential to long-term growth, and consistency matters (especially when motivation fades).
Keeping these lessons in mind has been essential as I continue growing my brand. For readers who love travel, or are dreaming of starting, I invite you to follow along, read my blogs, and reach out for recommendations or inspiration for your next trip. Travel is always better when shared.
