Meet Shanice Ramsay-Folkes of Palm Bay (Brevard county)

Today we’d like to introduce you to Shanice Ramsay-Folkes.

Hi Shanice, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
I began my career in the insurance industry at age 20, working under a 440 license. While the experience gave me a strong foundation, I quickly realized the limitations of working under supervision particularly when my contributions were often overshadowed and final authority rested with others. That experience became a turning point rather than a setback.

Determined to grow and gain independence in my career, I went back to school and pursued my 220 license. In 2019, I passed the state exam, which allowed me to bind policies, sign off independently, and fully take ownership of my work. Earning my 220 license not only elevated my professional capabilities but also opened the door to future opportunities, including the ability to open my own insurance agency.

Today, I’m proud of the journey one built on persistence, self-advocacy, and a commitment to continuous growth in an industry I truly value.

I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
The road hasn’t been completely smooth. Early in my career, working under a lower license meant limited autonomy, and at times my efforts were overshadowed despite the work I was putting in. That lack of control over my own progress was frustrating, but it also clarified what I wanted for my future.

Pursuing a higher license while navigating life’s responsibilities required discipline, sacrifice, and persistence. Studying for and passing the 220 state exam was challenging, but it became one of the most rewarding milestones of my career. Each obstacle pushed me to advocate for myself, trust my capabilities, and stay focused on long-term growth rather than short-term comfort.

Those struggles ultimately shaped my confidence, work ethic, and appreciation for the position I’m in today.

Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
I work in the insurance industry, specializing in helping clients understand coverage clearly so they can make informed, confident decisions. I focus on property and casualty insurance, guiding individuals and families through policies that protect their homes, assets, and long-term stability. I’m known for being thorough, patient, and honest especially when explaining details that are often overlooked or misunderstood.

What I’m most proud of is earning my 220 license and building a career that allows me to work independently while supporting my family. I take pride in advocating for my clients the same way I’ve learned to advocate for myself by asking the right questions, ensuring accuracy, and prioritizing integrity over quick results.

What sets me apart is my ability to balance a demanding career while being fully present as a wife and a mother to a toddler. Working remotely while caring for my child has strengthened my discipline, adaptability, and time management. I approach my work with intention and empathy, understanding firsthand how important stability and protection are for families. That lived experience shapes how I serve others and why I’m deeply committed to doing my work with care and integrity.

Alright so before we go can you talk to us a bit about how people can work with you, collaborate with you or support you?
People can work with me by connecting for insurance guidance, referrals, or collaborative opportunities within the industry. I’m always open to supporting clients who value clear communication and informed decision making, as well as collaborating with professionals who share a commitment to integrity and service.

Support can be as simple as referrals, sharing resources, or amplifying my work through word-of-mouth. I believe strong relationships and community connections are key to long-term success.
