Community Highlights: Meet Mabell Alcantara of Bright Light Therapy Solutions

Today we’d like to introduce you to Mabell Alcantara.

Hi Mabell, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today?
I was born in New York, but when I was three years old, my family moved to the Dominican Republic, my home country, which I deeply love and that shaped who I am. I completed my bachelor’s degree in Psychology there, and I was fortunate to work as a speech therapist for a couple of years, gaining hands-on experience and developing my passion for helping children and families.

After that, I moved to Madrid, Spain, to study speech pathology, and then came to Miami to pursue my master’s in speech pathology. I’ve now been working in the field for more than 10 years, focusing on providing high-quality, compassionate therapy.

Over time, what began as a small step turned into a growing practice built on trust, collaboration, and genuine care. Through dedication, continuous learning, and an amazing team of therapists, I’ve been able to expand services and reach more families in our community. Today, I’m proud to lead a practice that not only focuses on progress, but also on empowering parents and celebrating every child’s unique journey.

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
Of course not—it hasn’t always been smooth. About eight years ago, I lost my dad, and that completely changed my life. He was a business owner, and I could always see how good he was with people—how he genuinely cared, helped others, and built relationships. That ability to connect and give back is truly his legacy, and it’s something I want to carry forward in my life, with my work, my team, and eventually with my kids.

Losing him was incredibly hard, but I learned so much from that experience. I truly feel that God and my dad have been the best mentorship I could ever have, guiding me in how I lead my team, care for families, and create a supportive, positive environment at Bright Light Therapy Solutions.

Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your business?
Bright Light Therapy Solutions is a speech, occupational therapy and physical therapy clinic dedicated to helping children and families reach their fullest potential in a compassionate, child-centered, and collaborative environment. We specialize in speech therapy, occupational therapy, and physical therapy working with children of all abilities to support their development, communication, and confidence.

What sets us apart is our holistic approach—we focus not only on measurable progress in therapy but also on creating a safe, welcoming, and positive space for children, parents, and our team. We truly believe that therapy works best when kids feel safe and happy, parents feel supported and empowered, and the team feels motivated and valued. Our approach is grounded in evidence-based practices, creativity, and empathy, ensuring every child’s unique needs are addressed.

I’m most proud of the culture and energy we’ve built at Bright Light Therapy Solutions. It’s a place where families feel hope and support, children feel joy and encouragement, and our team feels inspired to give their best every day—because I truly believe that giving your best is contagious.

What I want readers to know is that Bright Light Therapy Solutions is more than just a clinic. It’s a light in parents’ lives, a secure and happy space for kids, and a supportive, positive environment for our team. Our goal is to not only help children improve in certain areas but also to foster confidence, happiness, and a sense of belonging that lasts beyond therapy sessions.

Can you share something surprising about yourself?
Something that might surprise people is that even though I run a therapy clinic and work in a professional, structured environment, I’m deeply driven by creativity and personal connections. Most people see me as organized and focused on results, but what really motivates me is making people feel supported, happy, and understood—whether it’s a child, a parent, or a team member.

Another surprising thing is that I’ve lived and studied in multiple countries—the Dominican Republic, Spain, and the U.S.—and that experience shaped my bilingual and bicultural perspective, which I bring into my work every day. It allows me to connect with families in a unique way, understanding their cultural and personal experiences beyond therapy goals.

And on a personal level, losing my dad eight years ago profoundly shaped me—so much of the way I lead, care for families, and build my team comes from the lessons I learned from him. I think many people don’t know that my faith and his legacy are a daily guide in how I run Bright Light Therapy Solutions.
