Today we’d like to introduce you to Joanna Jimenez.
Hi Joanna, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstory.
Is it crazy that I always knew I would end up in real estate? Growing up, my parents were involved in construction and new development, so real estate was simply the world I was surrounded by. It felt familiar long before it felt intentional.
As I got older and entered college, I became curious about all the different paths within the industry. I explored several sides of real estate—from property management to working with companies that matched college students with residential communities—to understand where I truly fit. I studied Finance and International Business and went on to work for large, well-established firms like Prudential and Morgan Stanley.
It was during that time that I had a major realization: my greatest strength was being in front of people—connecting, communicating, and building relationships. While I earned my real estate license in 2009 and worked in the business part-time, I was still pursuing a corporate career. That all changed when I was laid off, which ended up being one of the biggest blessings of my life.
I gave myself one year to match the salary I had been making. I hit that goal—and then some. That moment gave me the confidence to fully commit to real estate, and in 2014, I went all in.
I eventually opened a boutique brokerage on Collins Avenue in Miami Beach, which we later sold to Compass in 2021. From the beginning, our focus has always been culture—operating with an abundance mindset, collaborating, and helping each other grow rather than competing against one another.
Today, The Opes Group has grown into a well-known and respected real estate team in Miami. We’ve been honored as the Miami Herald’s Miami-Dade Favorite Best Luxury Real Estate Team and recognized by RealTrends as the #1 Mega Team in Miami by transactions. Looking back, every step—planned or unexpected—led me exactly where I was meant to be.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
No way, its been a rollercoaster. The hardest skillset I have learned is to build Emotional Intelligence in this business. I used to cry myself to sleep in the begginning when things didnt go as planned. Now the highs or the lows dont affect me past bedtime. It took many years to learn but its such a great skillset I recommend to learn! Not putting systems in place or treating the business like a true business measuring and tracking numbers, expenses, returns, etc was something I wish I would have done sooner.
We’ve been impressed with The Opes Group at Compass, but for folks who might not be as familiar, what can you share with them about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
The Opes Group at Compass is a Miami-based real estate team specializing in single-family homes and key luxury markets throughout Miami-Dade & Broward County. We work primarily with sellers and homeowners who want a strategic, high-touch approach to pricing, positioning, and marketing their homes—especially in competitive or shifting markets.
What we’re best known for is our ability to combine data-driven strategy with relationship-based service. We don’t just list homes; we build comprehensive go-to-market plans that include pricing analysis, buyer psychology, targeted digital marketing, and strong agent-to-agent relationships that help our listings stand out and sell. With over 200 transactions annually and a consistent track record of top sales volume, our experience allows us to guide clients with confidence and clarity through major financial decisions.
Internally, culture is everything to us. We operate as a true team with an abundance mindset—sharing knowledge, systems, and opportunities so everyone grows together. That collaborative approach, paired with strong operational support, allows our agents to focus on what they do best: advising clients at a high level and building long-term relationships. Many of our clients are repeat or referral-based, which speaks to the trust we’ve built over time.
What truly sets us apart is that we run our business like a modern real estate company, not just a traditional sales team. We invest heavily in training, technology, and marketing while maintaining a very personal, boutique-level experience for our clients. That balance has led to recognition as a RealTrends Mega Team and being named the Miami Herald’s Miami-Dade Favorite Best Luxury Real Estate Team—but more importantly, it’s allowed us to build a sustainable business that supports our clients, our agents, and our community at the highest level.
Can you talk to us a bit about happiness and what makes you happy?
Being present with my family, hobbies & friends. I have been giving myself more time each year for myself or to spend doing things that make me happy. This year I became a member of the USTA and will be competing on a tennis league. I have also picked up going to the gym to lift weights & learning golf. Spending time with my two children showing them the world, experiencing with them activities we enjoy and getting to relive parts of our youth with them has been a very emotional experience.
