Today we’d like to introduce you to Jorge Alvarez.
Jorge, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
Wiser people than me have said to find something you love to do, and it will no longer feel like work. After 30 years in the corporate world, my wife, Maxine, and I decided to follow our hearts—and we took the leap into the cooking world! I’ve always been blessed with the gift of creating delicious food. Maxine, on the other hand, has unmatched organizational skills and a warm, outgoing personality that brings joy to every event. Together, we found the perfect recipe for success—a partnership where passion and precision meet to create unforgettable dining experiences. Our journey began with a GoFundMe campaign to bring our dream to life—a food truck that would serve authentic Cuban dishes made with love. Seventy-five incredible people came together to support us: old friends, new friends, and our faith community from the Catholic ministries we’ve had the honor of serving. Their generosity made The Stuffed Cuban possible, and their encouragement continues to inspire us every day..Just one year after launching our food truck, fate came calling—quite literally. Chef Gordon Ramsay reached out to feature us on a national television program highlighting the best food trucks from major U.S. cities. Representing South Florida, we faced off in a “cookoff” featuring our signature appetizer, Stuffed Tostones. In a blind taste test, we won! That incredible moment launched The Stuffed Cuban into the spotlight, and from there, our journey only grew more flavorful. We eventually transitioned from our food truck into a full-service catering company, expanding across Florida..Two years ago we moved t the West Coast of Florida. We now live in the town of Ave Maria. We continue to serve South Florida and have added this new market as well.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
Our catering business was going really well until Covid hit. We pivoted and starting offering private, to go meals, from our home. There were lines of cars wrapped around our block! The following year after the market re-opened we had our best year ever. Now being in two large markets, about 2 hours from each other, has bee a challenge, but both markets continue to grow for us.
Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
I trained under the great Chef Charlie Colon. He has been an executive chef in the large group catering space for 20 years. As explained earlier, this is a second career for me and my wife. We love what we do and love our customers also!
If you had to, what characteristic of yours would you give the most credit to?
We have had over 75 customers write reviews on our behalf. All 100% 5-stars! It is not just the quality of the food, it is the overall customer experience as well. We have old timers with us in South Florida, and a new staff our here in the West Coast,
