Life & Work with Leah Tibbals of Coconut Grove

Today we’d like to introduce you to Leah Tibbals.

Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
The idea of opening an in-home euthanasia business first came to me while I was working as an emergency veterinarian. So many clients expressed a desire to be at home for their beloved pets final moments. I didn’t find the motivation to make this idea a reality until I found myself a single mother of two right around the time that Covid entered the picture. The collision of these two life events helped to shape the way I wanted to live moving forward. This manifested with a mindset to take risks and to create the life that you want and can be proud of.

I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
Stepping into the role of a business owner was quite intimidating as I had no knowledge of what it entailed. I have learned so much over the past five years and still feel as though I have so much to learn. Learning how to market my business is still an obstacle for me, particularly in the age of Social Media and a role it plays in a business.

Something that is a unique challenge in this niche business is the emotional load it carries. I had to learn how to stay strong for my appointments and always remember how important this work is for patient as well as caregiver.

Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
I’ve been a veterinarian since 2007. I have explored many different facets of veterinary medicine, to include being a veterinarian for the Army reserves. Ultimately, I have always felt a calling for end of life care. I currently specialize in in-home pet euthanasia with aftercare. I take a great deal of pride in providing this service with compassion and dignity for the pet. It is such an incredible gesture of love to allow a loved one to pass in the comfort of their home, surrounded by the people they love.

Who else deserves credit in your story?
I credit my children for providing endless encouragement as they have been there every step of the way.
