Today we’d like to introduce you to Lekisha White.
Hi Lekisha, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
My journey started with purpose rooted in personal experience. My grandmother, Mattie, passed away while living in an assisted living facility, and that moment stayed with me. It opened my eyes to the importance of quality, compassionate care for those who are often overlooked. Around the same time, my little cousin Sanaya, who was born with cerebral palsy, further shaped my passion for serving individuals with disabilities..
Originally, I envisioned opening a large assisted living facility, but I realized that starting smaller would allow me to provide more personalized, hands-on care. That decision led me to open Well Living Group Home, where I now serve as Executive Director. Stepping into this role required me to push past my comfort zone, learn as I went, and grow not only as a business owner, but as a leader.
Today, I’m proud to have turned my vision into reality. The journey hasn’t always been easy, but it has been purposeful. Each step has reinforced my belief that failure is not an option. If one path doesn’t work, you choose another. I’m committed to being the change I want to see, and I’m just getting started.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
It definitely hasn’t been a completely smooth road. One of the biggest challenges was stepping outside of my comfort zone and navigating unfamiliar territory. I had to learn many aspects of the business along the way, especially when it came to staffing, leadership, and understanding the operational side of care.
Managing employees was a learning experience, as was realizing how important structure, accountability, and time management are to running a successful organization. I also had to overcome my own tendency to procrastinate and truly understand that time is money. Those challenges pushed me to grow, become more disciplined, and operate with intention.
While the journey may have taken longer than I originally anticipated, every obstacle strengthened my resilience.
As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
My work is centered around providing high-quality, compassionate residential care for individuals with disabilities. As the Executive Director of Well Living Group Home, I specialize in creating structured, supportive environments where residents feel safe, valued, and empowered to live with dignity and independence. My focus goes beyond care alone. It includes advocacy, life skills development, and ensuring each individual receives personalized attention tailored to their needs.
I’m known for leading with both heart and accountability. I believe compassionate care must also be well-organized and sustainable. I take pride in building systems, setting clear expectations, and holding myself and my team to a high standard so that the people we serve receive consistent, quality support.
What I’m most proud of is turning a vision into a fully functioning reality. Building Well Living Group Home required courage, resilience, and growth, and seeing residents thrive in an environment I created is incredibly fulfilling. What sets me apart is my ability to balance empathy with structure. I don’t just care deeply, I also ensure the work is done with intention, efficiency, and long-term impact in mind.
How can people work with you, collaborate with you or support you?
People can work with me and support my work in several meaningful ways. Collaboration opportunities include partnerships with healthcare professionals, community organizations, and service providers who share a commitment to quality care and advocacy for individuals with disabilities. I’m always open to working with others who value compassion, accountability, and positive impact.
Support can also come through referrals, donations, sponsorships, community engagement, volunteer programs and training and spreading awareness about the importance of dignified residential care. Whether it’s collaboration, mentorship, or shared resources, I believe meaningful change happens when people come together with a shared purpose. Building strong relationships within the community is essential to the work I do, and I welcome opportunities to grow and create impact together.
