Life & Work with Eddy Beethoven of Miami

Today we’d like to introduce you to Eddy Beethoven.

Hi Eddy, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
At birth, the seed of my potential future was planted when my parents decided to give me the second name of “Beethoven.” Being raised between New York City and the Dominican Republic, I was exposed to both Latin and North American cultures in which music played a major role in everyday life. As the years went by, I began to dabble more and more into learning how music was created and the process behind it. I took piano and solfege classes from ages 11-13 and started composing songs, recording, and making beats around age 15.

As I got closer to graduating High School in the Dominican Republic, I knew I could not see myself doing anything else but music. Therefore, I decided to return to New York City with the intent to pursue a career as a Record Producer. Despite this intention, I decided to take the “safe route” and enrolled in college as a Business Administration student due to the traditional belief that only a small percentage of people actually make it in the music industry. However, halfway through college, I felt I was not walking in God’s purpose for my life, and followed my heart by switching my major to Music. I ultimately graduated Fordham University with a major in Music and a minor in Business Administration. Thereafter, I decided to attend graduate school and specialize in the field of audio engineering and music production by earning a Master of Music degree in Music Technology from the prestigious New York University.

While I was in school, I would go to classes, work a part-time student job on campus, and then receive clients at my home recording studio, which was in my apartment in upper Manhattan. That was the hustle of my everyday life. The word began to spread around the city of a kid in his bedroom who was offering some “industry standard sounding” musical productions. Thereafter, as soon as I finished school, I opened up my first commercial recording studio, NH Records, in the heart of NYC next to Madison Square Garden. My business continued to grow and my name started to get more out there. I then upgraded to a bigger recording studio space several blocks away and hired other producers and engineers to work alongside me.

After achieving success in my home city of NYC, I decided to expand my business to Miami, arguably one the top cities for the music industry. Since expanding to Miami, I’ve worked with top global artists in the Latin and Anglo industries; have had several songs I’ve participated in reach four Latin Billboard Charts categories, with one peaking at #3 on the Billboard “Tropical Airplay” category; had had 2x Latin Grammy nominations as an engineer and 2x Latin Grammy nominations afor my recording studio. I have also been invited to participate in important songwriting camps around the world hosted by well-known performance rights organizations; have placed songs on television series and major radio; and have produced songs with millions of plays on streaming platforms such as YouTube and Spotify.

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
One of my initial struggles was the belief that a kid growing up in the Dominican Republic could return to New York and become a successful figure in the music industry. I had to reassure myself that through my work ethic and determination, I could accomplish what I set myself to achieve.

Thereafter, I would say my next biggest challenge was moving to Miami because I had everything going for me in New York. I had a steady and loyal clientele, a studio that was operating 24/7 with other producers and engineers working under me, and even artists renting out the studio for their personal projects. However, like they say, “if you can make it New York, you can make it anywhere.” So I took that statement literally and decided to take my talents to South Florida with no commercial recording studio space and no Miami-based clients, but in pursuit of greater industry opportunities – and it all paid off.

Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
I am a record producer and audio engineer. I basically work through the production process of a song from start to finish: which ranges from songwriting, making the beats and musical arrangements, recording the vocals/instruments, all the way to the mixing and mastering. I’d say my beat-making and audio-mixing skills are what I’m mostly sought out for. My clients have frequently stated that working along with me has resulted in them achieving their very best songs and sound quality – which truly makes me proud of what I do.
