Today we’d like to introduce you to Adrian Benitez.
Hi Adrian, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
My father was a commercial shrimper in the early 2000s, he transitioned from shrimping, to lobster and stone crab, to fin fish. He would get up early AMs and catch fish, then would go on a little truck selling fresh fish around Miami. He was never able to stay in one spot long enough because they would kick him out. In 2014 as i graduated college, we opened our first Adrian Fish together in Hialeah gardens. Full restaurant with a full fish market. In 2018 we opened ADR Global Fisheries, a Wholesale business with a full distribution line of fresh and frozen seafood with Plants in Mexico and supplier contracts across the globe like in panama, costa rica, and El salvador. We have a full fishing fleet in south florida, with 5 commercial boats in the keys that do lobster, stone crab, and fin fish. 1 in Miami doing lobster, and 1 in ft lauderdale doing king fish. This has helped us immensely in having amazing prices at the restaurant and fish market and being able to compete with market prices. In 2024 we decided to open our second restaurant in the city of Southwest Ranches, davie. A new stand alone location with a full bar (our original location only does beer and wine), a full fish market, and seating for up to 300 patrons.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
Definitely not! over the years the seafood industry has gotten harder, with newer/ tougher regulations every year on fish. That combined with the restaurant and hospitality industry makes it a challenge everyday. You really have to love what you do, and we do!
