Inspiring Conversations with Dr. Nahomie Mirville, DNP of Amavie Wellness Center

Today we’d like to introduce you to Dr. Nahomie Mirville, DNP.

Hi Dr. Nahomie, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstory with our readers?
My journey began with a deep desire to serve and care for others, a value rooted in both my culture and faith. While I initially aspired to become a neurosurgeon, over 25 years ago, I stepped into nursing with curiosity, heart, and a willingness to lead, and that decision opened doors I never imagined. What began as a Licensed Practical Nurse grew into a dynamic career spanning clinical practice, leadership, academia, community health and entrepreneurship. Earning my Doctorate in Nursing Practice from the University of Miami and becoming both a Family Nurse Practitioner and a Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner allowed me to fully embrace holistic care by treating the body, mind and spirit. For the past 19 years as a professor and former dean of nursing, I’ve done more than teach. I ignite curiosity, fuel ambition, and inspire future healthcare leaders to show up with confidence, purpose and passion.

I believe health education doesn’t belong only in exam rooms or classrooms. I use my talents and creativity to make health awareness engaging, relatable and culturally relevant. Whether I’m a guest speaker on radio or television, writing and producing plays, leading conversations through Global Impact Magazine, or using fashion through NM Collections to raise awareness for breast cancer and domestic violence, I turn education into action. My goal is simple: to spark conversations that lead to prevention, healing and empowerment.

Community service fuels everything I do. From leading nursing and professional organizations to founding and supporting nonprofits locally and internationally, especially within the Haitian community. I live by the belief that serving is a natural thing to do. I actively contribute to numerous community organizations. I served as chairwoman of the Haitian American Professionals Coalition (HAPC) and currently sit on the boards of the Family Action Network Movement (FANM), Balancing Life Foundation and the Maestro Rodney Duverny Foundation. I am the current chairwoman for this amazing organization by the name of Love Your Neighbor Now (LYNN) Foundation, which empowers communities in Haiti through health, education, business and life skills programs.

I served as president of the Haitian American Nurses Association of Florida and remain an active member and advisory board member. In 2014, I became the founding president of HANA International, which was placed on hold and resumed in 2017 with new leadership. Currently, I serve on the boards of HANA of Florida and Georgia. Over the years, I have held various leadership roles within the association to support both the nursing community and the broader community locally and internationally. Beyond these leadership positions, I actively volunteer through advisory boards, medical missions, mentorship, and free healthcare services, guided by a deep commitment to service, education, and community empowerment.

That same passion led me to create Amavie Wellness Center, where I combine innovative healthcare delivery, including telehealth and concierge services, with a holistic approach that honors the body, mind and spirit. I believe that health awareness, when delivered with creativity, compassion, and purpose, has the power to transform lives. Today, I continue to balance my roles as a clinician, educator, leader, entrepreneur, mentor, and mother, all grounded in one purpose: to serve, inspire and create meaningful impact.

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
The journey was far from easy. Navigating school, a demanding nursing career, and leadership roles while raising my daughters as a divorced mother required discipline, sacrifice, and unwavering faith. There were countless long nights, early mornings, and moments when the workload and responsibilities felt overwhelming. Balancing academic demands, clinical responsibilities, leadership roles, and parenting tested me in ways I never expected.

At the same time, those struggles became my greatest teachers. They taught me perseverance, discipline, and the importance of faith and community. Every obstacle reminded me that my path was to create a better future for my family and to serve others with compassion and dedication.

We love surprises, fun facts and unexpected stories. Is there something you can share that might surprise us?
Something many people might find surprising is how multifaceted my passions are beyond healthcare. While most know me as a Nurse Practitioner, educator, and community leader, I’m also a playwright, a fashion entrepreneur, and an advocate for health awareness. I integrate art, storytelling, and cultural perspectives into healthcare. I use my creative talent to enhance education and create meaningful impact for individuals and communities. I have used my designs to showcase breast cancer awareness and donate clothes to domestic violence organizations.
