Today we’d like to introduce you to JC Rios.
Hi JC, so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
Raised in Sabana Seca neighborhood of Toa Baja Puerto Rico, My journey has been shaped by culture, community, and an early passion for baseball. I began playing the game at just three years old, establishing a lifelong connection to the sport that would later define my career.
Driven by ambition and a desire to understand the business side of sports, I pursued higher education at Lindenwood University in St. Charles, Missouri, where I earned a degree in Sports Management. I further strengthened my professional foundation by completing the Baseball Agent Course at Sports Management Worldwide and earning a Contract Law: From Trust to Promise to Contract Certificate from Harvard University—academic experiences that deepened my expertise in athlete representation, negotiation, and contractual strategy.
I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
It’s been smooth. My passion for what I do and the hard work I have put on, it has taken me where I am today.
Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know?
I am a Certified Major League Baseball Players Association (MLBPA) Agent, a distinction that reflects years of preparation, discipline, and commitment to the professional representation of elite athletes.
I am the Founder of ILFT Sports, a modern sports agency built on culture, excellence, and a global vision. Through ILFT, I represent MLB veteran Wilmer Flores, widely respected for his consistency and leadership at the highest level of the game, as well as Joely Leguizamón, the first Latina selected in the Women’s Professional Baseball League (WPBL) Draft, making history in women’s baseball.
My mission centered on empowering athletes and protecting their legacy, I continue to emerge as a new voice in the sports industry—bridging talent, opportunity, and culture on an international stage.
Is there any advice you’d like to share with our readers who might just be starting out?
Start where you are, and don’t wait for permission. When I started, I didn’t have connections, shortcuts, or guarantees. What I had was passion, discipline, and a willingness to learn every part of the industry.
Master your craft before chasing opportunities. Learn the rules, study contracts and understand the business.
