Today we’d like to introduce you to MaryAnn Braun.
Hi MaryAnn , so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
Right now, I am a lawyer in private practice and amateur comedian on the side. I have my own firm MABRAUN LEGAL, PLLC. My specialty is criminal defense. Previously, I was a government lawyer for 18 years. After that I decided I wanted to work with private clients and be my own boss. I have over 20 years of legal experience in many aspects of the law. I am passionate about helping my clients get the best results possible in whatever their legal predicament the face. I firmly believe that not everyone accused of a crime is a bad person. I try to deliver competent, affordable, and compassionate representation to my clients. On the lighter side, I do occasional stand- up comedy. Laughter is always the best medicine!
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
Being a lawyer is a constant rough road. The law has a representation for a reason. It can be very competitive, lonely, and intense. It can also become addictive, and you can find yourself becoming all legal work no play. The hours can be long and for the most part you are dealing with people at their worst not their best. This can be quite depressing. Also, I did not come from a family of lawyers which can be a real downside when you need support or advice. I had to find my own “legal family”. What helped me was finding friends in the law to understand and support me. My non legal friends help keep my sane, remind me that I am not just a lawyer and to keep up with my hobbies.

I am a lawyer. I specialize in criminal defense but also do family law and eminent domain.
