Good morning Silvino, it’s such a great way to kick off the day – I think our readers will love hearing your stories, experiences and about how you think about life and work. Let’s jump right in? What battle are you avoiding?
Fear is keeping me from taking an important risk, and I’d like to dress myself in the courage of my future self, as he looks back at me proudly. I am currently avoiding the battle of making a difficult decision, which will involve risk, and my fear of losing and failing is preventing me from taking the leap.
Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
Chair of the Entertainment Law Group at EPGD Business Law (Miami, FL). Over 10 years of experience representing Grammy and Emmy award-winning artists and entertainers in major deals and lawsuits; as well as world-leading digital streaming services (DSPs) and publications like Rolling Stone en Español as counsel. Recognized by Billboard Magazine as one of America’s Top Music Lawyers (2022) and Super Lawyers as a Rising Star in Entertainment and Sports Law (2021-2025). Author, professor, speaker, and mentor to thousands via Starving Artists, a legal service and media channel for artists, creators and entrepreneurs.
Thanks for sharing that. Would love to go back in time and hear about how your past might have impacted who you are today. What breaks the bonds between people—and what restores them?
Relationships are like a garden, in that you don’t have endless land, and it is you who must keep the crops alive. The plants that grow in your garden, do so by being served, and given – time, attention, water, nutrients, pesticides, sunlight, shade, protection. Their gift to you is the fruit, but you will never see it, or harvest it if you do not give first.
If you could say one kind thing to your younger self, what would it be?
Your dreams will come true, but not as you imagine them. You do not get to chose how destiny reveals itself.
Sure, so let’s go deeper into your values and how you think. Where are smart people getting it totally wrong today?
People fail to see that prediction is a fool’s errand. And they rarely notice that when ends up occurring is either totally the opposite of what’s expected, or something completely anomalous.
Okay, we’ve made it essentially to the end. One last question before you go. What do you think people will most misunderstand about your legacy?
Legacy is like a flag. You may design, craft and raise it; but you will never control where the wind takes it.
