PJ Davis of West Palm Beach on Life, Lessons & Legacy

We recently had the chance to connect with PJ Davis and have shared our conversation below.

PJ, really appreciate you sharing your stories and insights with us. The world would have so much more understanding and empathy if we all were a bit more open about our stories and how they have helped shaped our journey and worldview. Let’s jump in with a fun one: Would YOU hire you? Why or why not?
I definitely would hire me. I’m creative, hardworking, and think out of the box.

Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
My name is PJ Davis and I’m fashion editorial/portrait photographer. I’ve been a professional photographer for almost 10 years and I specialize in creative lighting.

Great, so let’s dive into your journey a bit more. Who saw you clearly before you could see yourself?
It’s really hard for people to see you and recognize your talent and hard work when you’re coming up. It was only when I started being recognized in certain spaces or publications that people started opening their eyes. It was a lonely road in the beginning.

Was there ever a time you almost gave up?
No! Never! I’ve never been the type to give up. I have a burning desire to succeed. I don’t shy away from hard work. Also, I love what I do and wouldn’t stop or quit.

Alright, so if you are open to it, let’s explore some philosophical questions that touch on your values and worldview. What would your closest friends say really matters to you?
They would say living life as I see it matters most to me. It’s important to me that I live the way I want. As an artist I don’t want to conform to what “they” think I should be. Will I appease clients, of course but I love thinking out of the box to make sessions interesting.

Before we go, we’d love to hear your thoughts on some longer-run, legacy type questions. What will you regret not doing?
If I don’t get up every day and work on my craft I’ll definitely regret it. I try to learn something new everyday. Maybe it’s an editing thing maybe it’s a camera thing or lighting thing. Whatever that thing is I have to practice it.
