Sandra Trinidad-Lago of Miami on Life, Lessons & Legacy

We’re looking forward to introducing you to Sandra Trinidad-Lago. Check out our conversation below.

Hi Sandra, thank you so much for joining us today. We’re thrilled to learn more about your journey, values and what you are currently working on. Let’s start with an ice breaker: Have any recent moments made you laugh or feel proud?
Recently, I had one of those pinch-me moments. I was invited by the DecoLovers Institute to speak at their Professional Balloon Designer graduation ceremony, representing the first generation of certified artists. Standing on that stage — sharing my story with new graduates who are just beginning their own journeys — filled me with so much pride and joy. It reminded me how far Miami Love Balloons has come and how grateful I am to be part of a community that celebrates creativity, connection, and heart.

Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
Hi! I’m Sandra Trinidad, the founder and balloon artist behind Miami Love Balloons — where we design custom balloon décor and surprise balloon deliveries that bring joy and celebration to life in Miami.

Clients describe me as professional, dependable, easy to work with, and attentive to every detail. Whether it’s a first birthday at home, a prom celebration, a corporate activation, or a milestone moment, I truly care about making each event feel special.

Over these past five years, I’ve also had the honor of teaching balloon artistry internationally and speaking to future balloon professionals — experiences that have strengthened my expertise and passion for what I do.

Balloons may be temporary, but the emotions they spark are not. With every installation and delivery, I hope to help families create memories that last long after the celebration ends.

Okay, so here’s a deep one: What’s a moment that really shaped how you see the world?
A lot of my passion for celebrations began at home. My mom was humble about it, but she always found ways to make birthdays and holidays feel like a big deal. There were always balloons, there was always a big cake and everything was filled with love and excitement.

Some of those moments I only remember because she photographed everything. Those pictures showed me how much joy a celebration can bring and how the smallest details can make people feel special.

Our house became a place where people looked forward to gathering. The anticipation, the planning, the decorating — those early memories taught me that celebrations connect us.

Today, through Miami Love Balloons, I get to pass that same feeling forward — creating moments that turn into memories families will treasure for years to come.

Was there ever a time you almost gave up?
Slow seasons can be tough. But then a returning client reaches out — “We’re celebrating again!” — and suddenly everything makes sense again. Repeat clients are the biggest reassurance that the work we do matters and that we’ve become part of their story.

So a lot of these questions go deep, but if you are open to it, we’ve got a few more questions that we’d love to get your take on. What’s a cultural value you protect at all costs?
Yo soy Boricua, pa’ que tú lo sepas.
I’m proudly Puerto Rican, and the cultural value I protect at all costs is the importance of celebrating life. In Puerto Rico, we have the longest Christmas celebration in the world — because every moment is worth honoring, and every reason to gather is a reason to bring people together.

We show up for one another with music, food, storytelling, and joy that fills the room. We carry our flag high and our happiness even higher. That mindset has shaped who I am and the work I do today. Creating celebrations isn’t just my business — it’s my language, my heritage in action.

Celebrations connect us. They keep traditions alive. They remind us of who we are and who we love. And that is something I will always protect… siempre.

Thank you so much for all of your openness so far. Maybe we can close with a future oriented question. If you retired tomorrow, what would your customers miss most?
I think they would miss how much I care. I don’t just decorate — I help bring a vision to life while making the process smooth and enjoyable. Clients tell me they love how easy I am to work with, how I communicate, and how I go above and beyond. They trust me with their most treasured milestones, and I don’t take that lightly.
