Kristy Squire shared their story and experiences with us recently and you can find our conversation below.
Kristy, it’s always a pleasure to learn from you and your journey. Let’s start with a bit of a warmup: What do the first 90 minutes of your day look like?
The first 90 minutes of my day starts with taking our pups out for a morning walk, getting a workout done with my hubby in our home gym, and then getting ready to head to the pool for work.
Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
I have been teaching self-rescue swimming lessons for babies aged six months on up to children 6 years old for nearly 19 years with Infant Swimming Resource. I have worked with well over 1000 students in the Boca Raton area as well I’ve trained over 40 Instructors for the ISR program who now teach all around the United States. With ISR, we teach real life skills to children so they can independently save themselves if need be in a drowning situation as well as swimming skills once they are developmentally ready. Our program steps in for when the wall or shore is too far for a small child to attain.
Appreciate your sharing that. Let’s talk about your life, growing up and some of topics and learnings around that. What did you believe about yourself as a child that you no longer believe?
I thought I was supposed to be quiet. I was always a very quiet and reserved child in school. I learned as I got older that being quiet doesn’t really help anyone. I learned that sharing feelings and ideas is important. If you want your presence and feelings known, you must speak up.
If you could say one kind thing to your younger self, what would it be?
You will make a difference.
Sure, so let’s go deeper into your values and how you think. What would your closest friends say really matters to you?
I would say my kids. While I am a business owner and a wife, being a Mom is the most important role I’ve ever had. Recognizing how different each of my children are from one another and learning how to parent them separately is a challenge but also something I try my best to work at and think I’m doing a pretty good job.
Okay, so let’s keep going with one more question that means a lot to us: When do you feel most at peace?
When my family is together. Being a blended family, we don’t always have the ability to all be together at once and now the added challenge of three of the five being away at college- those days come less often. When they do, I am in my most peaceful place.
