Conversations with Nikki Drea

Today we’d like to introduce you to Nikki Drea.

Nikki Drea

Hi Nikki, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstory with our readers?
I began going to church at a very young age, often tagging along with my neighbor, Mrs. Brown. Nearly every day she brought me to a lively Caribbean church where the congregation sang, clapped, and danced with a joy that filled the room. I was no older than six, but even then I felt how powerful music could be—how it could lift spirits, even at funerals back home in Jamaica.

Growing up between St. Catherine, Jamaica (Spanish Town) and Miami, Florida, I absorbed the rhythms, traditions, and energy of both places. Those blended influences shaped the way I heard and felt music. I joined the church choir, and later a school chorus, where I first discovered that my voice wasn’t just a sound—it had presence, emotion, and power. That realization marked the beginning of everything that would follow and create the birth of Nikki Drea.

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Honestly, the moment I stepped out from behind the scenes of the entertainment world and into the spotlight, the journey has been surprisingly smooth and welcoming. I never expected so many people to embrace me as an artist—in fact, I initially prepared myself for the worst. My greatest challenge has been battling my own doubts, but my faith in God keeps me grounded and motivated. And with my fans constantly pushing for more, I stay sharp, inspired, and ready to grow.

Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
Crowned “The Duchess of Dancehall” by DJ World Diamond and endorsed by Waggy Tee himself, I have grown into a multidimensional force whose talents refuse to be confined. As a singer, songwriter, and producer with an unmistakable aura, I move fluidly between my creative passions and a dynamic professional life—one that spans healthcare, finance, casting, youth mentorship, and entrepreneurship. As CEO and founder of Vivassi Inc., my rising skincare and fashion brand, I am living proof that artistry and ambition not only coexist, but thrive together.

My story begins in Miami Gardens, where at just 16 years old I landed my first job working for Rick Ross at the Hip Hop Grub Spot. That early opportunity placed me squarely in the mix with industry heavyweights like Flo Rida, BallGreezy, and Supa Cindy. Not long after, I began collaborating with Rick Ross’s fashion designer, Tiffany C.—one of my earliest and most influential mentors. Even then, I was thinking three to five steps ahead, shaping my presence, sharpening my discipline, and building the vision I carry today.

That determination pushed me into pageantry, where I earned first runner-up in the Miss Miami Teen 2004 competition—later inheriting the title after a forfeit. Still, I hungered for a victory that felt completely my own. So I traveled to Orlando, competed in a high-stakes music and modeling showcase, and secured a one-year contract that propelled me deeper along my artistic path.

By 17, I was recording in local studios and performing as a background vocalist for reggae legends such as Marcia Griffiths and Manley. What felt like stepping stones then have since revealed themselves as defining chapters in my evolution as an artist.

My rise continued as I worked alongside multi–Grammy Award–winning producer Bigg D on major cultural events, including the Miami Garden’s Juneteenth celebration and the City of Miramar’s Trick Daddy & The Orchestra concert. Surrounded by some of the most respected figures in the industry, I absorbed every lesson and with that wisdom, I now pour back into my craft.

As I built my music career, I also embraced my calling to serve. Becoming an RN and financial activation specialist expanded my world far beyond the stage. That world widened yet again when I met renowned Miami casting director Lashawnna Stanley, who guided me into the casting industry. Under her mentorship, I found my lane, eventually becoming a casting director for celebrity clients and a mentor to youth searching for direction and opportunity. This placed me even further along within the music scene.

I also gained notable recognition after winning an open-verse competition hosted by NATO’s own Jay-A. The challenge — set to his viral track “Deep Emotions” — took over social media, and I Virally emerged as the winner, taking home the top prize. Big up NATO every time! #1Nato

Through every chapter, every title, and every role, I remain committed to pursuing passion with intention. I am a creator, a leader, and a visionary who wears many crowns. Each one reflecting the brilliance of a woman determined to leave her mark on every world she enters.

If you had to, what characteristic of yours would you give the most credit to?
Having a strong faith and maintaining your life values are what I believe are the most important qualities to succeed. Most of all, being grateful.

Special thanks to all of the DJs to ever give me a chance, all of the club managers and promoters who believe in me, the artists’ I’ve worked with, all of my supporters, friends, family, and my fans -the Nikki Drea Nation riding along with me on my journey!

I love unnu baddd!
