Rising Stars: Meet Ilan Presman of Aventura

Today we’d like to introduce you to Ilan Presman.

Hi Ilan, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today?
I’ve loved movies ever since I can remember. As a child, they were my source of exploration, and as an adolescent, they became my escape. I knew from a young age that I wanted to be in Hollywood. I remember in 4th grade taping a picture on top of my bed that said “DAWPS,” standing for director, actor, writer, producer, and singer. My first introduction to creating content came from YouTube, where, throughout my younger years, I started various channels, whether it was gaming, let’s plays, or challenges with my siblings, all to entertain and make an impact on people. I began writing scripts and directing short films in 2022, under my own production company, “Ilan Presman Creative”. Now, I am attending the University of Central Florida, where I am studying to earn a degree in both film and integrated buisness. I just wrapped filming on my first short film I’ve directed in a few years, where I am using everything I’ve learned so far in my time in film school to make something that people will really enjoy.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
The film industry isn’t an easy path to break into, and there’s never a guaranteed outcome. That reality was made clear to me early on by the people around me; not to discourage me, but to prepare me. I’ve always known this isn’t a typical or conventionally safe career, and that I would have to work harder than most to get where I want to go. Those challenges don’t scare me. If anything, they motivate me. I see them as fuel pushing me to keep going, to keep improving, and to keep creating. I believe my purpose is to make movies and entertain people, and I’m committed to putting in whatever work it takes to make that happen.

As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
As I mentioned before, I am currently attending my sophomore year at the University of Central Florida, where I am studying both film and buisness. Before my time at UCF, I was entirely self-taught and was driven by my passion and need to succeed. I am now deep in the school’s curriculum where I am enhancing my knowledge of the craft, along with earning a degree in buisness to support my creative mind with buisness fundamentals. I am most proud of my short film, which is currently in post-production. Co-directed by me and one of my creative partners, Eliel Hamon, it’s a modern-day comedy in the vein of “Harold and Kumar Go to White Castle” and “Superbad”. We’re delighted with how it’s looking and are so excited to share the film with the world, where everybody could use a good laugh.

Risk taking is a topic that people have widely differing views on – we’d love to hear your thoughts.
Taking risks is one of the most important things someone needs to do to be successful. If you consistently play it safe, how do you plan to stand out from the crowd? I believe that wanting to work in the film industry is inherently risky, and that’s something I’m okay with. I personally find life to be boring with no risk. The risk of failing is what motivates me to keep going.
