Today we’d like to introduce you to Robbriannia Johnson.
Hi Robbriannia, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today?
Throughout my time in the nonprofit sector working with young girls and women and as an African American woman that has given birth I’ve witnessed firsthand the medical neglect that women of color encounter. I wanted to be that person can that can advocate for women during a vulnerable time in their lives, giving birth and bringing in new life. This is the reason why I became a Certified Birth Doula. I wanted to be able to educate, advocate and listen to families that are growing and provide them with a safe space to be vulnerable and heard.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
No, it has not been a smooth road. On my journey to becoming a Certified Birth Doula, I gave birth to my second daughter with no medication and I had the best support from the maternity team at Boca Raton Regional Hospital. But this was a new chapter that I had to manage along with ensuring that my clients were receiving the assistance that they required of me.
We’ve been impressed with Flourishing In Birth Doula Services, but for folks who might not be as familiar, what can you share with them about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
