Today we’d like to introduce you to Mia Butler.
Hi Mia , please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
I started my journey in skincare about four years ago, long before I ever imagined owning a business. At the time I was simply a young mom trying to figure out my purpose and create a life that felt aligned with who God was calling me to be. I’ve always been drawn to care, healing, and helping others feel confident in their own skin, so becoming an esthetician felt like a natural fit.
In the beginning I worked out of small suites and did a little bit of everything as I learned the industry. With time I became passionate about corrective skincare, especially hyperpigmentation and acne, because I understood how deeply those concerns can affect a person’s confidence. I invested in advanced education, slowly built my client base, and focused on creating a space where people felt genuinely cared for.
There were seasons when I wanted to quit, times when finances were tight, and moments where I struggled with self-doubt. But every time I prayed for direction, God made it clear that this was bigger than beauty. He was shaping me into someone who could serve women and change how they feel about themselves.
Today I am the owner of Complexions by Mia, a results-driven skincare studio in South Florida. I specialize in personalized facial treatments, chemical peels, BioRePeel, and corrective skincare plans that help clients transform their skin and learn to love their complexion. My business has grown through word of mouth, consistency, community, and the relationships I’ve built with clients who trust me with their skin.
I’m still growing, still learning, and still evolving. But I’m grateful that I get to build something that reflects both my passion and my purpose. My story is really a testimony of faith, resilience, and trusting the process even when I couldn’t see the full picture.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
The road has definitely not been smooth. One of the hardest moments in my life was losing my mom right at the height of my business. Trying to grieve while still showing up for clients, my family, and myself was something I had never experienced before. It forced me to grow in ways I wasn’t prepared for, but it also grounded me in my purpose.
Another challenge was pivoting from lashes to skincare. I felt called to make that shift, but I started with almost nothing. I had to rebuild my clientele, reinvest in new education, and trust that God wouldn’t put me on a path without providing for me along the way.
There have also been seasons of dry spells, inconsistent income, and navigating a tough economy as a solo esthetician. Those moments tested my faith and my discipline, but they also strengthened my resilience. Every obstacle pushed me to become more intentional with my craft, my business, and the experience I give my clients.
Even though it hasn’t been easy, each challenge has shaped me into the woman and business owner I am today.

Complexions by Mia is a corrective skincare studio in South Florida dedicated to helping women feel confident and supported in their skin. I specialize in advanced, results-driven treatments such as customized facials, chemical peels, BioRePeel, microneedling, and personalized homecare plans. My approach blends science, education, and relaxation so each visit feels like a true reset for the mind and the skin. I love corrective, med-spa style treatments, but I also believe in honoring the soothing, grounding experience of a traditional spa—my clients get both.
I’ve lived in Broward for over 20 years, so this community is home to me. I’ve grown up around so many different faces, families, and complexions, and now I get to help many of those same people heal their skin. Being Puerto Rican and Bahamian has also given me a deep understanding of skin diversity. My own family is made up of many different tones and undertones, and that background helps me confidently serve people of color with care, accuracy, and intention.
One of the most important parts of my mission is making luxury skincare experiences accessible to women who often put themselves last—especially people of color and busy working moms. I understand how hard it can be to slow down and invest in self-care, so I’ve created a space where clients can experience both results and peace.
I’m most known for working with hyperpigmentation and acne and for creating realistic, easy-to-follow routines that actually work. What sets Complexions by Mia apart is the level of personalization behind every treatment. No two clients receive the same service because no two complexions are the same. I take the time to understand their lifestyle, habits, and goals so we can build a plan that truly transforms their skin.
What I want readers to know is that I genuinely love skincare and facials. I work hard to create an upscale, educational, comforting experience that feels tailored, intentional, and memorable. My brand is rooted in purpose, community, and a deep desire to help people feel confident in the skin they live in every single day.
We’d love to hear about any fond memories you have from when you were growing up?
One of my favorite childhood memories was going to the old Galaxy Skateway back in 2006–2008. They used to host those teenage all-nighters, and it was the place everyone in Broward came to skate, laugh, and just be free. I was in middle school at the time, and my older sister Felicia would take me with her. We’d meet kids from all over Broward, skate for hours, and feel like we were part of something fun and magical. Those nights were simple, carefree, and full of fun!! Some of my best memories growing up.
