Community Highlights: Meet Christelle Bolden of Legacytress Braiding Salon

Today we’d like to introduce you to Christelle Bolden.

Hi Christelle, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstory with our readers?
My journey began at home, where I started braiding for family and friends. What started as a small home-based passion eventually grew into something greater, driven by my desire to help people embrace the beauty of their natural hair.

Legacy Tress, established in February 2024, was built from that humble beginning. My love for braiding and my advocacy for natural hair inspired me to create a space where everyone can feel seen, valued, and confident in caring for their hair.

At Legacy Tress, every braid tells a story. We specialize in protective hairstyles that reflect individuality while keeping your hair strong and healthy. Beyond styling, we also offer personalized treatments and custom hair masks to repair and nourish your hair from root to tip.

What started in my home has now grown into a space built on culture, confidence, and authenticity. At Legacy Tress, we don’t just braid hair. We celebrate you.

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
It definitely hasn’t been a completely smooth road, but every challenge has helped me grow. I started this journey from my house, inspired by the growing trend I was seeing on Instagram. Once I began marketing my services there, I got my very first client — that was a big moment for me..
After about six months of consistent work, I was able to open my own salon, which was a huge milestone.
One of my biggest challenges has been finding reliable braiders. While we do have some consistent team members, it’s still a struggle to find skilled and dependable braiders on a regular basis. Building the right team has been one of the hardest, but most important parts of the journey.

Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your business?
We’re not your traditional braiding salon where you just book an appointment, get your hair done, and leave. Our mission has always been to create a full experience where clients feel genuinely cared for from the moment they walk in.

One of the ways we do this is by offering free consultations before every appointment. We take the time to assess each client’s hair, suggest the best braid styles, and make sure they feel confident and comfortable with their choice.

What truly sets us apart is the luxury vibe and overall experience we provide. Braiding is just one part of what we offer — we’ve created a space that feels more like a retreat. We provide complimentary snacks and drinks, and even have an in-house café where clients can order their favorite items from our menu while getting styled.

To make the experience even better, we also speed up the braiding process by assigning two braiders to a client, especially during weekdays. This helps save time without compromising the quality of our work.

We also host monthly events at the salon, featuring entertainment like belly dancers, live DJs, and more — creating a fun, engaging, and welcoming community atmosphere.

Beyond our daily services, we open our space for private events and rental services, perfect for intimate celebrations. We also hold braiding workshops, allowing others to learn and grow their skills in a supportive environment.

One of the things we’re most proud of is our signature Growth Oil, which has become a client favorite and a key part of our brand.

At the heart of everything we do is a passion for making people feel beautiful, pampered, and empowered — not just through braids, but through a complete luxury experience.

Alright so before we go can you talk to us a bit about how people can work with you, collaborate with you or support you?
