Today we’d like to introduce you to Silvana Deziderio.
Hi Silvana, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
We’re originally from Sao Paulo, Brazil – “Terra da garoa e do brigadeiro!” After my husband and I got married and had our first child, we felt our small town was becoming too small for our dreams. We wanted more opportunities, a fresh start, and a new adventure.
So in 1998, we came to the United States- I was only 21! We’ve spent many years working together in restaurants and completely fell in love with the hospitality world. It’s our second home, and honestly, we can’t imagine doing anything else.
Those Doces was born during uncertainty of the COVID pandemic, our 5th baby, as we like to call it! While everything was shutting down, we needed something that would bring joy, hope, and pride for our family. I remember when I told my kids and husband the idea, they laughed and asked, “Are you serious?” I said, “Yes! This will happen!” And it did.
Food is our passion. We love what we do, and our kids have been cheering us since day one. I came up with the name Those Doces kind of by accident – it just made us laugh! It’s a playful mix of English and Portuguese, the way Brazilians love to do, and it means something like “those sweets made especially for you.”
We may be small, but everything we make is handcrafted with love, chocolate, and dedication, one order at the time. And although brigadeiros were our first step, they’re just the beginning of a much bigger dream. A full menu of Brazilian-inspired goodies we can’t wait to share with the world. After all, Those Doces ins’t about one treat; it’s about creating moments of sweetness, comfort, and connection.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
There have been moments when everything seemed so close, and yet somehow, things slipped away. We’ve faced the illusion that if we worked hard enough, everything would finally fall into place, but life doesn’t always match our expectations, As immigrants, we’ve carried invisible weights, silent battles, the feeling of being invisible, misunderstood, or constantly behind, the longing to belong, the constant rebuilding, the quiet disappointments that come when dreams meet reality.
Still, I try to see all with faith. Every challenge has taught us something. Even when things feel uncertain, I remind myself the we’ve came so far, and that there’s meaning in every step. I may not be living the dream exactly as I imagined, but I know God hasn’t stopped writing our story. We’re still here, standing, growing, loving, and learning to be grateful, even when the road feels nothing like we thought it would.
I’ve come to understand that we can still be proud of ourselves even in unfinished seasons. That gratitude and hope can live by side with pain and disappointment. And that’s what we hold onto every day, faith that this chapter, too, has purpose.
We may not be where we want to be yet, but we are becoming who we’re meant to be, and that for me is the real success.
Great, so let’s talk business. Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
At Those Doces, everything starts with love. The kind that reminds you of home, of family, of moments that taste like happiness. We specialize in authentic Brazilian sweets made with high-quality ingredients and care in every detail. Our brigadeiros are just the beginning, they are the door to so many other traditional desserts we dream of bringing to life.
What sets us apart is our authenticity, criativity and heart. Alongside the beloved classic flavors, we’ve created unique combinations like Caipirinha, Grand Marnier, and Dark Chocolate with Sea Salt & Toasted Almonds, a blend of tradition and sophistication that surprises every bite.
Every treat we make carries a story, of where we came from, of resilience, and of the joy that good food brings when made with the heart. At Those Doces we believe that sweetness can connect people, awaken memories and make ordinary days feel a little more special.
I am very proud of Those Doces in general. We built a brand through challenges, balancing family, work and entrepreneurship. Every sweet we make is crafted with intention, we blend heritage with creativity, showing that tradition can evolve without losing its soul, and lastly it is a way to make people smile, feel at home, and I love that!

I’ve always felt that my bad luck was creating something special in a time where passion and hard work are not enough. But my good luck has been much bigger, crossing paths with wonderful people that supported us, encouraged us made this journey worth it. Every smile, every kind word, every person that appreciated our work brought us so much joy. I feel incredibly lucky for the amazing customers who turned our small dream into something real.
