WRDFRDNZ (Weird Friends) shared their story and experiences with us recently and you can find our conversation below.
WRDFRDNZ, a huge thanks to you for investing the time to share your wisdom with those who are seeking it. We think it’s so important for us to share stories with our neighbors, friends and community because knowledge multiples when we share with each other. Let’s jump in: What is a normal day like for you right now?
Wake up in the early afternoon, make pancakes with eggs and coffee which I have with my amazing wife. After brunch, it’s hitting the studio which I have in my living room, in my one bedroom apartment in Miami. Take a break from recording to watch a John Carpenter movie or two before hitting the studio again. After the studio, I’ll hit up a live show somewhere in Miami for a while. Afterwards, I’ll listen to my recording sessions from the day as I’m driving home. Enjoy a lovely dinner with my wife before hitting the hay until the next day 🙂
Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
I’m WRDFRNDZ, a music recording and visual artist from Miami, Florida. My music ranges from all styles of genres but if I had to classify, I’d say it’s Alternative R&B/ Rock or WRD-POP for fun. As of late, i’ve been in the studio recording music non-stop. For the first time in my life, I’ve been able to make music without expectation or pressure. I’m not signed and music isn’t my full-time (it ain’t paying my bills) so it’s been a great creative outlet for me which i’ve been able to release via streaming. Within a couple months, I’ve recorded around 16 singles that are currently being released and a 9 song album which will be dropping January 2026. Most of the songs are older material that deserved re-recorded releases with fresher production. It’s been nice to revisit some of my older songs and bring them back to life. My style production style is still raw and isn’t fancy at all but the clarity and honesty is what’s most important. I’ve also been able to incorporate my visual artistry to my music, creating the album art for the singles. Very excited for everyone to check out my new music!
Appreciate your sharing that. Let’s talk about your life, growing up and some of topics and learnings around that. What was your earliest memory of feeling powerful?
Towards the end of my senior year in high school, my band and I were already writing and rehearsing original music. We were performance ready…well, as ready as we would ever be at that time. We hit the stage to perform our music one night at the legendary Churchills Pub for an open mic night. Our first time performing live to an audience and we were shitting bricks but excited to show them what we could do overall because we were more than ready! We started playing and the small audience of 5 immediately responded positively to our performance. We were tight and advanced for our age (we’d been rehearsing everyday after school for 4 years). That was a powerful moment for me because it motivated us to continue writing and performing to audiences that grew in larger numbers shortly after.
When did you last change your mind about something important?
As a “serious” music artist, i used to think i needed to have an “anal” plan by plan roll out before releasing my music. I would layer plans on top of plans, disguising procrastination as preparation. It wasn’t until last year when I officially quit pursuing a professional music career that I felt a weight lifted off my back, the relinquish of expectational pressure, which freed me to “just be and do”. This approach allowed me to make music freely and release it whenever I want. That moment show me it’s all bullshit. It doesn’t matter, these pressures we put on our music releases. Once it’s out, it’s out. Good music is never old and discovery is eternal. All I want to do now is release everything. Sure, I do believe in having a plan at some point but right now, my only concern is releasing everything and clearing up my musical mental capacity. Maybe i’ll make some visuals for them later on. Maybe I’ll license them off. The world of opportunity is wide open.
I think our readers would appreciate hearing more about your values and what you think matters in life and career, etc. So our next question is along those lines. What are the biggest lies your industry tells itself?
The music industry lies about what it truly takes for an artist to make it in the “big time”. Most “new” artists that debut on an indie level were already supported by the label in secrecy to appear as though they blew up overnight but in reality, had financial support for marketing and promotion from a label. The music industry sells false dreams. It’s very much possible to make it as a successful music artist if you genuinely have a true following, but I don’t believe the hype as I once did when I was a young boy with naive eyes. To make it on an industry level, you have to already have made it on an industry level. Make it make sense…
Okay, so let’s keep going with one more question that means a lot to us: When do you feel most at peace?
I feel most at peace when I’m creating and performing my music. Duh, no brainer 🙂 Seriously though, if you’ve never experienced creating music, it’s cathartic. God’s greatest gift; creation. Better than sex. Better than eating the most delicious food. It’s purpose filling.
