Today we’d like to introduce you to Nicole Jacobsen.
Hi Nicole, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
My journey has been anything but linear, but every step has been deeply rooted in service, education, and the desire to help others thrive.
I was born and raised in Staten Island, New York, and early in my career I found my way into healthcare—first as a radiation therapist, trained at the world-renowned Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center (MSK). Working at MSK shaped me profoundly. It wasn’t just where I mastered the technical side of radiation therapy; it’s where I learned how meaningful compassion, communication, and patient-centered care truly are. During my time there, I also completed a master’s degree in healthcare administration, which opened my eyes to leadership, systems thinking, and the power of well-designed patient experiences.
After eight years at MSK, I stepped into a Chief Radiation Therapist role at a community center in New Jersey, where I led teams, mentored new clinicians, and strengthened my passion for developing others. Eventually, life brought me to Miami, where I joined Sylvester Comprehensive Cancer Center at the University of Miami as a Senior Radiation Therapist. There, I had the unique opportunity to help launch and lead the MRIdian (ViewRay) MR-Linac program—a career milestone that blended innovation, clinical excellence, and patient advocacy.
Teaching entered my life soon after, and it felt like coming home. Today, I serve as the Program Director and Clinical Coordinator for Miami Dade College’s Radiation Therapy Program. I mentor dozens of students each year, develop curriculum, collaborate with clinical partners across Miami and Broward, and support the next generation of therapists as they transition from classroom to clinic to career. Over the years, I’ve also earned a master’s in psychology and began my doctorate in Applied Learning Sciences at the University of Miami—both of which have strengthened how I teach, coach, and understand human behavior.
CareerRx was born from this intersection of clinical expertise, psychology, and a lifelong love for mentoring. For over 15 years, students, colleagues, and even strangers online would come to me for advice—résumés, interviews, professionalism, confidence building, career transitions, and tough conversations. I realized that what came naturally to me was genuinely transforming people’s careers. I also saw a gap: healthcare students and early-career professionals have the clinical skills, but often lack guidance on communication, mindset, professionalism, and navigating real-world careers.
So I turned my passion into a brand.
CareerRx: Your Prescription to Success blends my decades of clinical experience with evidence-based psychology and learning science. It has grown into coaching, digital products, workshops, book development, and a recognizable brand that’s helping students and healthcare professionals gain clarity, confidence, and the skills they need to succeed. Whether I’m teaching in the classroom, coaching one-on-one, creating tools for job seekers, or developing new resources through my doctoral work, my mission is always the same: elevate people from where they are to where they’re meant to be.
Looking back, every chapter—MSK, leadership roles, graduate school, Miami, teaching, research, and now entrepreneurship—built the foundation for CareerRx. And what excites me the most is that I’m just getting started.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Definitely not. My journey has been full of transitions—moving from New York to New Jersey to Miami, rebuilding my career and network each time. Stepping into leadership roles early on also pushed me to develop confidence and learn how to lead people with more experience than me.
Burnout was another real challenge. Working in oncology is incredibly meaningful but emotionally heavy, and balancing that with continued growth required a lot of self-reflection. Transitioning into education brought a new learning curve too—figuring out curriculum design, student support, and how to mentor in a completely different setting.
And building CareerRx hasn’t been effortless either. Entrepreneurship requires vulnerability, experimentation, and long nights behind the scenes. But every challenge ultimately strengthened my purpose and shaped the way I support students and healthcare professionals today.
Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
I’m a Radiation Therapist, educator, and Program Director at Miami Dade College, as well as the founder of CareerRx: Your Prescription to Success. I help healthcare students and professionals build confidence, professionalism, and career readiness through evidence-based coaching, interview prep, and résumé development.
My background includes over 15 years of clinical experience at places like Memorial Sloan Kettering and Sylvester Comprehensive Cancer Center, plus graduate training in both healthcare administration and psychology. I’m also completing my doctorate in Applied Learning Sciences at the University of Miami, which strengthens how I teach and coach.
I’m most proud of the impact my work has on people—watching students grow into confident clinicians and seeing professionals land roles they once thought were out of reach.
What sets me apart is the blend of real clinical leadership, deep teaching experience, and psychology-driven coaching. I’ve lived every stage of the healthcare career journey, and CareerRx allows me to guide others through it with clarity, compassion, and practical strategy.
Let’s talk about our city – what do you love? What do you not love?
What I love most about Miami is the energy—there’s a vibrancy here that you can’t replicate anywhere else. The diversity, the culture, the food, the beaches, and the mix of people from all over the world make it such an inspiring place to live, teach, and build a brand like CareerRx. Miami has this unique way of making you feel like anything is possible.
What I like least is probably the traffic and the fast-paced rush that sometimes comes with it. But even that feels like a small trade-off for everything the city offers. Miami’s beauty, warmth, and opportunity outweigh the challenges every time.
