Today we’d like to introduce you to Erick Dominguez.
Hi Erick, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
Immigrated to Miami in 1993 from Guatemala. I was a 6 years old. From a young age I saw my parents work hard to put food on the table. They gave me the worth ethic to strive in school. As a first generation in the United States I was able to graduate at Miami Dade College with my RN degree. I furthered my academic career by graduating from NSU with my doctorate in pharmacy.
Finally my journey was done. No, I got to thinking that is only half of the American dream. So I started working on the other half of the American Dream. To be your own Boss, To have your own business something that you can leave for the next generation.
I looked back for a moment and realized that South Florida has given be everything I wanted. The deeper I looked the more clearer it was. My journey was fueled by Cafesito, Pan Con Bistecs, and Grit.
To go full circle my mothers first job here as an immigrant was working at a cuban cafeteria. I would go after school and work on my homework while she worked. I enjoyed it of course (I would get to try the food). While in college I would go right before class to the side window of a cafeteria and get some breakfast.
All this to say that when it was time to start a business I took the fondest memories and wanted to recreate the Miami culture, the 305 culture in Coral Springs.
I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
Its never a smooth road. As a small business you have to adapt and constantly improve. Like I say if your not growing your dying.
We expanded our to a second location as the Covid pandemic began. It was a big punch to the gut. No customers, cost of good soaring, the unknown.
Fortunately we navigated and came out stronger.
Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your business?
El Cubano was started in 2018 in Coral Springs Fl. We specialize in Authentic Cuban Sandwiches an Coffee. Our vision was simple to bring a of Miami (the 305) to Broward and Coral Springs.
El Cubano Sandwich Shop is a locally-rooted South Florida brand built on one simple mission: deliver the most flavorful, authentic Cuban sandwiches, breakfast, and coffee in Coral Springs — fast, fresh, and made with love.
We specialize in Cuban-style comfort food that feels homemade but tastes unforgettable — classic Cuban sandwiches, pan con bistec, pastelitos, croquetas, café con leche, and hot-off-the-plancha breakfast sandwiches that have become a weekly ritual for thousands of locals.
What sets us apart?
We treat flavor seriously. Every bite matters. We hand-press each sandwich fresh to order — never pre-made trays — and we source the cuts, marinades, and seasonings that honor true Cuban tradition. We also serve with speed: our goal is fast casual quality without sacrificing authenticity.
Brand-wise, what we are most proud of is this:
We’ve created a neighborhood Cuban shop that feels like home. Families know our team, our cashiers know our regulars’ orders, and our community drives everything. We’re not a corporate chain — we’re a Coral Springs original.
