We recently had the chance to connect with Vencent Dorcilien and have shared our conversation below.
Vencent , a huge thanks to you for investing the time to share your wisdom with those who are seeking it. We think it’s so important for us to share stories with our neighbors, friends and community because knowledge multiples when we share with each other. Let’s jump in: Have any recent moments made you laugh or feel proud?
On Friday, August 29, 2025, I came across a photo I took in 2nd grade—a picture of me leaning on a photography book for picture day. Mind you, this was 1996, long before I ever imagined where life would lead me.
Fast forward to 2019, when I picked up my first professional camera—without realizing that photography had quietly been part of my story all along. All those years passed, and I never noticed the sign that had been there from the start.
Today, I’m living what that childhood photo foreshadowed—creating art through the same lens that first caught my curiosity. That’s a beautiful full-circle story
Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
My name is Vencent Dorcilien, a photographer based in Miami, Florida. I’ve been capturing powerful moments for over five years, specializing in events, sports, portraits, and commercial photography.
I’ve had the opportunity to be featured in and photograph numerous large-scale ad campaigns and celebrities, including ESPN, Jordan Brand, Nike, Tinder, Chase, The Players’ Tribune, Dwyane Wade, Rick Ross, and many more.
Currently, I’m expanding my creative journey into cinematography, focusing on storytelling and producing high-impact documentaries that inspire and connect with audiences.
Amazing, so let’s take a moment to go back in time. Who saw you clearly before you could see yourself?
My grandmother, Rose Violette Pierre, knew I was going to be special one day, even before her passing. At the time, I didn’t know what I would excel at, but fast forward — I discovered my love for photography. One thing she instilled in me as a child was to keep my faith in God, which I continue to carry with me to this day.
What did suffering teach you that success never could?
Suffering taught me that life isn’t always under my control. It teaches acceptance and humility. It showed me how strong I am when enduring pain, failure, setbacks, or losses. Success doesn’t always demand that same level of endurance. Suffering helps us appreciate even the smallest joys and blessings in ways that constant success rarely does. Ultimately, success is the summation of suffering: accumulated losses, countless attempts, failures, lessons learned, and, most importantly, the refusal to give up.
So a lot of these questions go deep, but if you are open to it, we’ve got a few more questions that we’d love to get your take on. Is the public version of you the real you?
No, not at all. What I do in my public life is very different from my private life.
Thank you so much for all of your openness so far. Maybe we can close with a future oriented question. Are you doing what you were born to do—or what you were told to do?
I’m doing what I was born to do. I humbly feel that photography is my calling, purpose, and assignment on earth. I never imagined that photography would become my passion, nor was it something I was actively seeking — it simply became something I fell in love with. It’s a gift that I have honed, mastered, and continue to study, as I enjoy perfecting my craft every day.
