oriana armand of Brickell on Life, Lessons & Legacy

We recently had the chance to connect with oriana armand and have shared our conversation below.

oriana, really appreciate you sharing your stories and insights with us. The world would have so much more understanding and empathy if we all were a bit more open about our stories and how they have helped shaped our journey and worldview. Let’s jump in with a fun one: What makes you lose track of time—and find yourself again?
The arts; I believe this word is the point of escape where I find myself, turning into a process of catharsis.

Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
I am a being in constant formation, filled with doubts, lessons, and moments of resilience that have made me stronger today. I’m deeply interested in understanding human nature, and through that process, I find inspiration to recreate my thoughts and emotions in paintings or songs. I come from a town called Mérida, a city surrounded by mountains that hold countless folk stories and legends — perhaps that’s where much of the essence of my visual work comes from.
I’m currently working on several musical projects that truly excite me: my voice is present in them, and my artworks will bring the videos to life, since I animated some of my paintings — now the characters have their own soul, moving to the rhythm of my music.

Thanks for sharing that. Would love to go back in time and hear about how your past might have impacted who you are today. Who were you before the world told you who you had to be?
was a girl with a lot of character and personality — spontaneous and creative. I always needed to be creating, so at a very young age I bought a sewing machine and started making my own clothes, then selling headbands and dolls at my school.

Unfortunately, the situation in my country was a hard blow that made me wake up very young, as we lived in a reality where we lacked basic essentials like water and electricity, among other things. I knew I had to leave.

At a young age, I left for Argentina, where I went through some crazy experiences — I confess that at one point, without really knowing how, I ended up selling perfumes on the street. It’s interesting how those moments can build your confidence and help you grow.

Later, I arrived in Miami. I started painting locked in a room during the pandemic, until someone saw my work and said, “Hey, we should organize an exhibition for you.” And that’s exactly what we did. Today, I am that.

What did suffering teach you that success never could?
I wouldn’t say suffering, but rather all the emotions opposite to extreme happiness.
Perhaps those intense emotions made me delve deeply into myself and connect in a very conscious way, leading me to meditate and reflect on things from my childhood and beyond.
I believe that suffering or sadness are necessary emotions in life that help us grow, understand ourselves in adversity, and reach a higher level of understanding of life in order to be at peace with it.

Sure, so let’s go deeper into your values and how you think. What are the biggest lies your industry tells itself?
That the industry should depend on the state, or that it’s somehow free from political interests — what a lie

Before we go, we’d love to hear your thoughts on some longer-run, legacy type questions. If you laid down your name, role, and possessions—what would remain?
Beautiful paintings to throw at the ceiling.
