We recently had the chance to connect with Lauren Collorone and have shared our conversation below.
Hi Lauren , thank you for taking the time to reflect back on your journey with us. I think our readers are in for a real treat. There is so much we can all learn from each other and so thank you again for opening up with us. Let’s get into it: What is something outside of work that is bringing you joy lately?
Something outside of work that’s been bringing me joy lately—though some might argue it still counts as research—is watching the new Ed Gein series on Netflix and revisiting Halloween movies and shows from my childhood, like Scary Godmother.”
Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
Hi, I’m Lauren Collorone. I’m a Production Designer and Art Director originally from Long Island, New York, now based in Florida. I work under the name South Shore Studios, which represents both where I come from and the creative identity I’ve built over time. I specialize in production design and work across all areas of the art department—from prop making and sourcing to set dressing, scenic painting, construction, and developing the overall visual concept of a film. I collaborate closely with the director, cinematographer, and gaffer to ensure every element on screen supports the story and creates a cohesive world.
My focus is always on the details—the ones that may go unnoticed by the audience but are essential in making a scene feel real and lived-in. If viewers don’t consciously notice my work, it usually means I’ve done it right.
Thanks for sharing that. Would love to go back in time and hear about how your past might have impacted who you are today. Who taught you the most about work?
My family taught me the true meaning of hard work and what it takes to be successful. I come from a long line of blue-collar, hardworking men and women. My great-grandfather was a bricklayer, one grandfather worked as a tin knocker for Grumman aircraft, the other was a truck driver for the Daily News, and my father is a glazier. My mother built a career in human resources. From a young age, I was surrounded by strong examples of what it means to take pride in your work—values that have been instilled in me from day one. I was told as a kid, ‘If you love what you do, you’ll never work a day in your life,’ and that’s something I’ve carried with me to this day.
If you could say one kind thing to your younger self, what would it be?
Honestly, I think I’d say more than one thing. I’d remind myself that things don’t always go as planned, but that’s okay—this too shall pass, and everything happens for a reason. I’d encourage myself to chill out, enjoy the little moments, and stay humble when the big ones come.
So a lot of these questions go deep, but if you are open to it, we’ve got a few more questions that we’d love to get your take on. What’s a belief or project you’re committed to, no matter how long it takes?
A belief or project I’m deeply committed to is myself. Every day, I strive to become the best version of who I am for the future Lauren, and I don’t mind how long it takes because I never regret investing in myself.
Before we go, we’d love to hear your thoughts on some longer-run, legacy type questions. What is the story you hope people tell about you when you’re gone?
When all is said and done, I hope people remember me as generous, caring, and a good friend—a thoughtful gift giver too. And maybe, along the way, I’ll have a few visually memorable films and TV shows with my name in the credits.
