An Inspired Chat with Brigitte Lu of Miami

We recently had the chance to connect with Brigitte Lu and have shared our conversation below.

Brigitte, it’s always a pleasure to learn from you and your journey. Let’s start with a bit of a warmup: What do you think is misunderstood about your business?
I think what’s often misunderstood about Blu Crochet is that people see it only as a handmade swimwear brand but behind every piece, there’s a story of resilience, purpose, and transformation. Our bikinis are made by women from prisons in Peru, and each stitch represents a step toward empowerment and hope. Blu Crochet is not just fashion; it’s a reminder that beauty can be born from healing and second chances.

Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
My name is Brigitte Lu, and I’m the founder of Blu Crochet a handmade swimwear brand born from purpose, creativity, and the belief that beauty can be a form of healing.
Blu Crochet is more than just fashion. Each piece is handcrafted by women from prisons in Peru, giving them the opportunity to rebuild their lives through art, dignity, and fair work. Every stitch tells a story of resilience, transformation, and empowerment.
What makes our brand unique is the soul behind every design a mix of timeless craftsmanship, sustainability, and a powerful social impact. Through Blu Crochet, I want to remind women that confidence, beauty, and strength come from within.
I’m currently working on relaunching Blu Crochet with a meaningful new collection and expanding into a clothing line made in Peru, staying true to our mission of creating pieces that inspire, empower, and give back.

Amazing, so let’s take a moment to go back in time. What did you believe about yourself as a child that you no longer believe?
When I was younger, I believed that strength meant doing everything on my own and following a path that others expected of me. Over time, I learned that true strength comes from connection from allowing others to be part of your journey and embracing your own unique path. Through Blu Crochet, I discovered that healing, creativity, and empowerment happen when we build together, not alone.

What fear has held you back the most in your life?
The fear of not being enough has held me back the most. For years, I tried to control everything and avoid failure, thinking it would protect me. But building Blu Crochet taught me that growth requires vulnerability that strength is born when you choose to try again, even when you’re scared.

Sure, so let’s go deeper into your values and how you think. What’s a cultural value you protect at all costs?
The cultural value I protect at all costs is community the spirit of creating together and lifting each other up. In my Peruvian roots, craftsmanship and connection are sacred, and I carry that into Blu Crochet. Every piece we make is a reminder that when women support women, we all rise.

Before we go, we’d love to hear your thoughts on some longer-run, legacy type questions. What are you doing today that won’t pay off for 7–10 years?
I’m planting seeds in my business, my personal growth, and my purpose. What I’m doing with Blu Crochet today, and the person I’m becoming through it, are long-term investments. I’m not just building a brand; I’m building a legacy of empowerment and authenticity that will keep growing for years to come, even when I’m no longer the one holding the thread.
