An Inspired Chat with Mr Jamaal Jones Sr. of Brickell

Mr Jamaal Jones Sr. shared their story and experiences with us recently and you can find our conversation below.

Jamaal, it’s always a pleasure to learn from you and your journey. Let’s start with a bit of a warmup: What is something outside of work that is bringing you joy lately?
I’m a student pilot and when I’m not at work representing my clients I’m usually flying over Biscayne Bay or cross-country to Naples or another city on the west coast of Florida. It brings me so much joy to see the world from that vantage point. It also forces me to forget about work for a few hours and instead focus on everything that goes into operating an airplance. My plan is obtain additional instrument ratings so that I can purchase my own plane so that I can take to the skies whenever I want.

Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
My name is Jamaal R. Jones, Sr., Esq. and I’m a Health Law Attorney at Jones Health Law P.A. where I represent healthcare practitioners and facilities in complex healthcare transactions, regulatory compliance, healthcare litigation and licensing matters. I’ve represented large health systems in reimbursement and contract disputes against the nation’s largest private healthcare insurers.

I am licensed to practice law in Florida, Tennessee, Washington D.C., and the United States Supreme Court. I am also the Vice Chair of Physician Organization Practice Group for the American Health Lawyer’s Association and the Immediate Past-Chair of the Health Law Section of the Florida Bar.

I host a YouTube page and Podcast aptly called “Jones Health Law” where I discuss healthcare law issues and interviews with healthcare practitioners.

Jamaal teaches Health Law as an Adjunct Professor at University of Tennessee College of Law. Jamaal has been a guest speaker at the Florida Department of Health and various universities and colleges, including FAMU, University of Florida, Florida State University, and Nova Southeastern University’s Health Profession Division.

Great, so let’s dive into your journey a bit more. Who saw you clearly before you could see yourself?
My mom has always been my biggest fan and loudest supporter since day one. Whenever I lacked the courage or confidence to pursue something or accomplish a goal that I set for myself she would always remind me of how special I was. She saw something in me early on that many others, including myself didn’t quite see. I’m happy that I listened to her becuase she played a pivotal role in why I am where I am today.

If you could say one kind thing to your younger self, what would it be?
I would tell my younger self that your contributions to your family and the community around you are going to be impactful and felt for years to come. You’ve worked really hard and lead by example and are truly living the life that you’ve always dreamt of.

Next, maybe we can discuss some of your foundational philosophies and views? What would your closest friends say really matters to you?
My closest friends would say that being a positive light and supportive of my family, friends, employees, and clients is what really matters to me. I truly think that we should all leave the world a bit better than how we found it and we can accomplish that though our relationship with others.

Okay, so before we go, let’s tackle one more area. If you knew you had 10 years left, what would you stop doing immediately?
If I had 10 years left I woudl stop complaining, comparing my life to others, and stalling on doing many of the things that I keep putting off for the ideal time.
