Briana Beaty of Palm Beach on Life, Lessons & Legacy

We’re looking forward to introducing you to Briana Beaty. Check out our conversation below.

Hi Briana, thank you so much for joining us today. We’re thrilled to learn more about your journey, values and what you are currently working on. Let’s start with an ice breaker: What is something outside of work that is bringing you joy lately?
Mahjong! I have been teaching middle schoolers the game for 2 years now(I taught myself how to play in order to teach!). We enjoy the game and I enjoy learning tidbits about their lives as we play. I have a group of friends that I play with as well.

Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
Palm Beach Moms is your guide to a sunny life with littles in the Palm Beaches and beyond. We love sharing our sunny finds with moms near and far, in all stages of motherhood. From daily local events to family travel we share it all. Staying true to what we truly enjoy and what helps our family is the key to keeping it authentic and helpful. The goal is always to save moms time and effort so they can spend that time with their family instead of researching.

Amazing, so let’s take a moment to go back in time. What breaks the bonds between people—and what restores them?
I think the bond can be broken by feeling separate and different from others. When you find common ground, and that is easy in motherhood, you find we are more alike and connected than not. Perhaps one bottle feeds and one nurses. You both hope for a happy healthy baby. One mom allows a screen and the next not even a TV. They both are wanting teh best for their child’s development. We are all doing the best we can with what we have at the time, and when you assume that about others it is easy to have grace for yourself and everyone else.

Was there ever a time you almost gave up?
Two toddlers, a major injury, a newborn, then a house flood in a matter of 2 months almost had me shutting the doors on both of my companies. I felt so overwhelmed and anxious it was hard to put one foot in front of the other. I felt like a fake offering support and resources to other moms when I was drowning myself. It took every ounce of my energy to smile and pull it together each day for my sweet family and the Palm Beach Moms community. I am so glad I did, looking back on that time gives me so much empathy and perspective – you never know what people are going through.

Sure, so let’s go deeper into your values and how you think. What’s a cultural value you protect at all costs?
That children and childhood are precious. I will die on this cross. Let children be children. Let them be dirty, make messes and mistakes, sleep in your arms, think they can be a dinosaur when they grow up. Protect them. Kiss their hands and cheeks and foreheads every chance you get. Tell them they are the most marvelous thing you have ever known. Delight in them. Remind them you love being their parent/uncle/teacher. Treat them with respect and kindness. Assume they are doing the best they can always.

Before we go, we’d love to hear your thoughts on some longer-run, legacy type questions. What are you doing today that won’t pay off for 7–10 years?
Teaching my children to not need me one day. Its heartbreaking while being so necessary. How to make food, keep their spaces clean, one day how to drive. I love doing these things for them and with them. Just writing this is so bitter sweet it makes me cry.
